Today a handsome antoninianus of Trajan Decius from the last JAZ auction arrived . I felt the price of $70.00 (including postage) was a bargain . This example below from CNG 468, Lot 538, just 2 days ago sold for $130.00 . The reverse on the CNG example has more detail, however, the JAZ example has a superior obverse .
Nice coin. Here is my example TRAJAN DECIUS AR Antoninianus OBVERSE: IMP C M Q TRAIANUS DECIVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. REVERSE: DACIA, Dacia standing left, holding draco standard Struck at Rome, 249 AD 4.39g, 22mm RIC 12b Ex CNG eAuction 328, Lot 761 Ex. Seaby with handwritten envelope and tag

Congrats, @Al Kowsky ... Great example! I have won many off @John Anthony over the years, and have been happy with EVERY win! TRAIANUS DECIUS I always felt he had an S-eating grin... Roman Empire Traianus Decius 249-251 CE AR Antoninianus Obv: IMP CM Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG, radiate cuirassed bust r. ..very nice coin and of a historic emperor(him and his son 1st emps. to be killed in battle)...and from a noble seller..i love the stick horsey...(JK).. Trajan Decius AR antoniniannus, ob. bust facing right, Rv Uberitas standing left holding purse and cornucopiae 22mm, 5.1gms
..i got the whole family..but until i figure out which button i pushed wrong on my camera, the family portrait will just have to wait
That is the story of my life. I had two of these. I bought the second because of the reverse style on Draco and tried unsuccessfully to sell the first (with better portrait) through both JAZ and AMCC2. I ended up giving it to someone who used to post here. I do not know if he still has it or not.
I bought this DACIA because of the obverse portrait. The reverse die used, unfortunately, was on its last legs. TRAJAN DECIUS AR Antoninianus. 4.91g, 21.4mm. Rome mint, AD 249-250. RIC 12b; Cohen 16. O: IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: DACIA, Dacia standing left holding staff topped with a wolf-like head (Draco). Then I bought this other DACIA, because of the early TRA DEC legend, and because I thought it was novel that Dacia here holds a regular standard rather than her usual Draco. TRAJAN DECIUS AR Antoninianus. 4.26g, 22.8mm. Rome mint, AD 251. RIC 36a (rare); Cohen 25. O: IMP CAE TRA DEC AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right. R: DACIA, Dacia standing left holding military standard. Ex Behnen Collection (purchased from Jonathan Kern, 2 Nov 2001) One of these days, I'll have to get one with a proper reverse.
....hmm....1st thought on 1st glance Claudius ll Gothicus comes to my mind...but that could be way off base..
Nice coins. I've been keeping an eye peeled for one of these and finally, just got this in the mail yesterday. It came in a Harlan J. Berk flip, which make it one of the few coins I own with a respectable provenance (I bought it from eBay, however). It is my first silver of this type for Decius:
