Guys, look at this ebay page:

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/rdms2000/m...lete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

    https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_...age:RECEIVED_AS_SELLER&_trksid=p2047675.l2560

For those that collect raw crown sized coins like thalers, can you tell his were copies? He lists them as copies and has sold many. Here is the thing........these coins are made of .900 silver so even if you did a test on them, they would pass. Can you just look at them and know they are copies?

How can ebay allow this crap????

I think what he is doing is dangerous and honestly, I trust raw coins even less. Paultudor and others that collect raw, be careful.......

Well, that is beyond aggravating. Judging by the pictures they are high-quality copies with nothing on them stating that they are fakes. The edge even looks correct on the couple I looked at.

@Chris B Its very dangerous because a scammer could buy a bunch of these and sell them at a swap meet and pretend that they inherited them. A sigma or other type of check will say these are real as they are made of .900 silver. Mark them up slightly and voila, quick sale!

Yep, if you look, it appears most of the recent sales were to the same person. My thought exactly.

What I find extraordinary is the Hong Kong half dollar, which despite being clearly labelled as a copy, has been bid up to $97!
To me they all look a little "wrong" but some judicious toning would make them very difficult to distinguish from the real thing. Caveat emptor has never been more relevant.

I wonder if they are correct weight and diameter. I saw on his sold items that he had two silver Italian crown copies that he sold. These silver copies must have been made in Europe

I noticed two things right off: English is not his first language. You can tell that from his usage. Some of the coins have edge lettering and it is uneven. Some letters high, some letters low.
For those of you who already have some of these GENUINE coins : Is there edge lettering and if so, is it even or uneven.
Also, I didn't see any reeding of any kind on any of the coins I looked at. They were all smooth except for the ones with lettering.
Granted, I did not look at all of the coins.

They don't look cast. Perhaps they were milled, or someone has access to minting equipment.

    You got me.

He's located in California , so if you want to do something about it I would suggest the California State Attorney General or the FBI or the Secret Service, because eBay will probably not do anything about it.
At the prices and the rate he's selling them, eBay is making way too much money to upset that apple cart.

I don't think he's breaking any laws at all. His reproduction coins are not American and he clearly states that they are copies.

I reported a few of them. I hope they get pulled, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

First of all ebay only cares about making money, but as far as i know there used to be a team of experts policing the coins section, sadly ebay decided to quit them, i think they were finding/taking down too many fakes!
I don't collect 19 century talers, though i like a few! On a first impression they look dodgy, especially the italian ones , but again, with some toning and if you're not familiar with the type , you might get in trouble! I bought a few fakes too(17 century) , luckily when i got them i was able to see the problem and sent them back!Usually if i buy from ebay(and i do it a lot),i compare the coin with at least 3 pieces sold by known auction houses and ask the seller for extra details, before making a move! What i've also noticed is that many talers sold by german auction houses as 19 century copies/galvanos/fakes/Lauer ones/etc, end up on ebay as genuine!!!So yeah, lots of fake crowns out there, 8 reales, piastres, talers all sold for good money and i don't see this changing!I had my last report a few months ago, on a bavarian taler, but it was still there after my attempt to take it down so i decided to stop!

I don't know if it would make 58 but in my mind definitely an AU.

It's often a problem of lighting and angles vs the camera. Try two gooseneck lamps at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions, moving them until the light is just right under the camera.
