    Can anyone tell me:

    1. WHAT PERIOD THIS COIN IS FROM
    2. WHAT THE DENOMINATION IS?
    3. WHAT IT MAY BE WORTH (BALLPARK)

I see quite a few on ebay that range from 100 dollars all the way up to around 3000.

The envelope states it is Japanese Gold and is in XF condition. It is 1/4 of an inch by a little over 1/8 of an inch

Your feedback is very much appreciated.

The first picture is upside down. The denomination is: 二朱 or Ni Shu, or 2 Shu.

It seems to match one of the following two types, though this isn't definitive:

    1. 天保二朱判金 Tempo Ni Shu Ban Kin, 1832 - 1858 with mintage of 103,069,602 (29.8% gold).
    2. 万延二朱判金 Man-En Ni Shu Ban Kin, 1860 - 1869 with mintage of 25,120,000 (22.9% gold).

Both types are listed as "Common." I'm not sure of the value, but you could look up the type to get an idea.
