A 1974 Hawaiian Token. Their wasvisdued by the Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce. It's nice in hand and not blurry like the photos.
Yeah, I have one somewhere around here or I've had one in the past! Great looking token but they're hard to sell so maybe a lot of them were minted!
Somewhere I have a token for bus fare in Hawaii. It has a Girl doing the hula on it. I'll have to look for it. Probably in a 2x2.
According to my research they were. The problem happened immediately after being placed in use. They were cheap and with the Hula Girl they were not used and kept as souvenirs. A short time later they were removed and replaced by another token as a shortage occurred on the buses, which were the main source to get around on the islands.
There was a big everything Hawaiian crave in early 50's, being a new state and already being a part of America history.
