Well this has to be one of the smallest run of commemrative coins in my collection LOL the lithuanian bank has to date only issued 4 coins in the series so here they are  Lithuania 1997 1 litas Portrait of Prof. Vladas Jurgutis (1885-1966), the first Governor of the Bank of Lithuania, a facsimile of his signature. Just to clarify this, the Latvian central bank has issued waaay more collector coins than these four. But yes, in that series of circulating commems (kinda like the British special 50p pieces), only four have been made so far. Christian
Just to clarify it a bit more they are from Lithuania and not Latvia and they have only issued four 1 litas commem coins to date, I do state that I am talking of this value alone and not any others the link is to the banks web site http://www.lb.lt/eng/banknotes/coins.html
Did I type Latvia? Umm, errr ... some day I will come up with a brilliant explanation. Until then: Christian
LOL not saying anything just sniggering The bank site dont give any reasoning behind the 4 issues unfortunatly and it does seem to be rather haphazard LOL
You think that's bad. When I logged on and saw the thread and clicked the link I was expecting to see a treasure trove...I thought it said Lusitania!
Seriously? My grandfather survived that. Yeah, on it when it got hit. 1917, IIRC. He was just a teenager sent by his dad to bring his mom and sisters to America. But I seriously don't remember if they found it or not. But that's why I read "Lithuania" that way, I guess.
Thanks, Steve. I never knew him. He was killed in an auto accident before I was born. But they say he was picked up hanging onto a piece of debris, that's how he stayed afloat. And he was young and pretty fit at that age. Anyway, where are my manners? Nice coins! Needless to say, I love those horses! :thumb: PS: And just in case you ever do find any coins from the Lusitania, I'm going to be the first member to know that, right? You better!
Do you want it back? Just give me the guy's name. My friend Guido is in that business, too, he'll get it back for you. Noooo problem.
