Hello everyone, Today was my 5th Metal Detecting Hunt at the new hot spot I discovered almost 2 weeks ago. I did well again with 2 Silver and 19 Wheat Cents . US Coins. I also found a 1939 Canadian Cent. The rest - I'm done with this spot for now. Tired.. I will try again in a few weeks
You've done great in that area and I know you enjoy the hunt. Not only do you get the coins but you're cleaning up the park. Look at all of those non coin items you've found.
Nice finds. Tell you what. I can stop by with a cup of coffee for you while you are on break. Just let us know where you are searching.
@paddyman98 Out of curiosity, do you find the depth of a coin correlates to the age of the find which would seem logical?
Definitely. Anything 2 to 4 inches down would be from the 1970's and recent. Further down to 12 inches is early 1900's to 1960's in the area I was concentrating on. It is a very pleasant area to detect!
I, and maybe others, would be interested in an overall assessment of the average depth at which your detecting turns up coins each time you "go walk-a-bout" with your detector. Nothing scientific, just your opinion while I sit at home unable to do the same.
The new detector I'm currently using has a metal ID and depth ID. The numbers mean different coins. So when I see a 27 with 3 arrows pointing downward I know it is a Copper about 6 inches deep. Each arrow represents 2 inches. In all the Wheat Cent finds they were all 27 and 3 to 4 arrows down meaning 6 to 8 inches. Silver was coming up between 30 and 33 with 4 to 5 arrows = 8 to 10 inches. Wheat were harder to spot and dig out because they are dark in color like the soil. Silver pops out nice and bright as if they were just buried even though they have been that deep for decades.
Here is the list for the last 19 Wheats I found in this last hunt - 1920 - 1 each 1925 - 1 each 1927 - 1 each 1932 - 1 each 1935 - 1 each 1936 - 1 each 1938 - 1 each 1939 - 1 each 1941 - 1 each 1942 - 3 each 1944 - 2 each 1945 - 1 each 1946 - 1 each 1950 - 1 each 1950 S - 1 each 1952 D - 1 each
Wow, you do really well @paddyman98! Here's a video of a gold find, I know it's very scarce but this video catches all the excitement!
