2009 presidential four designs dollars were among the best designs thus so far in term of group. with some changes being made. well, the good looking designs should help me buy and collect some more by next year. what's your comment?.
I'll only get what comes in proof sets, other than that I am really not into them. I like my proof sets, but wish they would go back to the basics(penny, nickel, dime, 1 quarter, 1 half and maybe 1 dollar coin). I personally don't like them, but to each their own.
coin design can anyone put all four photos of 2009 presidential dollars?. thanks. p.s. i don't know how to do it......sorry.
You can see all of them here: http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/2009-presidential-dollar-designs.html
Beautiful?? How about technically proficient. And I doubt if the actual coins will look as good as the artists renditions do.
Hmm... don't look any better or worse than the first eight ones, as far as I can tell. I think they look pretty good, but wouldn't go so far as to call them beautiful. This year's presidents weren't the most photogenic but that's hardly their fault; the coins depicted them as they actually looked. Same as next year's really. They'll be in the proof sets, which I get every year, so incidentally I'll get the proofs of them... I also have the album for the business strikes (just one per president, I don't bother collecting both mints). So I'll get them... I like this set, just for the historic value of catalogging the presidents. Fun fact: This year, with the release of the Andrew Jackson dollar, Jackson joined the coin and paper club (a person who's appeared on both government issued paper currency and government issued non-commemorative coins)! Previously only 4 people were in it... George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. This coin series will add more to the club of course... the next to join will be Ulysses S. Grant, in 2011.
You forgot a couple members of the club, James Madison who made it last year ($5,000 legal tender note fourth issue, $5,000 gold certificate series of 1882, and $5,000 Federal Reserve note series of 1918), and James Monroe ($100 silver certificate series of 1878, 1880, and 1881) and John Q Adams ($500 legal tender note fourth issue series of 1869) who each made it earlier this year. That bring the number of members up to eight.
I suppose it depends on how strict your membership requirements are... Andrew Jackson is still on the $20 bill. Of course if you limited the paper side to what's currently in circulation, it would only be fair to do that to the coin side too, and would have to drop Franklin, since they don't mint the Franklin half anymore. (Franklin is the only non-president in the club... and will continue to be, unless the Mint decides to put any of the other non-presidents who have been on paper on a circulating coin at some point in the future.) But sure, let them into the club too. The presidential dollar series are going to end up letting a lot more people into the club over its run. Grant will be the last one amongst those still on circualting paper... but McKinley ($500 FRN, also $100,000 gold certificate?), Cleveland ($1000 FRN), and Madison ($5000 FRN) will also join the club... I may be missing others. Anyway, the club will be getting significantly more crowded! They'll probably need to find a bigger clubhouse.
catalog out 2008 gift catalog from the u.s. mint is out. i received it today. too many coins to choose from. any recommendation which coin is good as a gift for Christmas?.
Might get edited. WASHINGTON - The United States Mint today released the four new portraits that will appear on
Interesting set of presidents... two of the shortest terms in office... Harrison spent about 30 days in office and Taylor a little more than a year... then there's Polk who sent us to war with Mexico, which eventually made the southwest, including California, part of the USA. This set captures an interesting and much forgotten time in American history... Nice sketches, too... but as said the coins themselves likely won't have that level of detail... they should still be nice nonetheless... can't wait to gawk...
2009 Presidential Golden Dollar Coins If you look at the production numbers of the first year of the Presidential Dollar Coins (2007) they are higher than the second year (2008). I'm wondering since these presidents are not as famous as the the others will their numbers be even slimmer? Will that add to their collectibility? Wait till we get to Lincoln, Kennedy, and Reagan I think you'll see an even greater interest in these coins.
going downward most of the series always start with very high mintages. after that, the figures will usually keep going down. maybe that is naturally.
2009 prez set i plan to buy 20 set. the estimated production should be around 50,000,000 to 60,000,000 for each president.
hopefully i hope the mint will issue fractional silver bullion, and w mint mark for collectors. like half ounce and quarter ounce. both proof and uncirculated for w mint mark.
