i just got back from my winning bids a 56, 57d and an 64d in gem bu condition, the56 has a die crack upper hair of washington

the 57d has die crack to rear of eagle (reverse), but my question on that one is marks on obverse die clashes, or just bag marks??
    and finnaly the 64-d has die crack at base of neck and back of eagles neck as well..for your consideration..got these for 4.50-6.50 each..not listed as errors, but i search through whole store catalogs for "hidden errors" such as these....let me know bout the 57-d please, and thank you..enjoy!! 96533214_2566592710325377_6042684660922712064_n.jpg 96533214_2566592710325377_6042684660922712064_n.jpg 96763541_666623104183577_888120316788736000_n.jpg 96846248_263684531347505_397077410211692544_n.jpg 97016960_629943691068591_6121135511349231616_n.jpg 97088881_538618003488579_1515808363802263552_n.jpg 97309829_238694690688592_7631570390027862016_n.jpg 97997933_250025092913665_3976780261693063168_n.jpg 98001721_166912804743761_9124231890876760064_n.jpg 98004555_2950937675003386_6196914509865549824_n.jpg 96533214_2566592710325377_6042684660922712064_n.jpg 96763541_666623104183577_888120316788736000_n.jpg 96846248_263684531347505_397077410211692544_n.jpg 97016960_629943691068591_6121135511349231616_n.jpg 97088881_538618003488579_1515808363802263552_n.jpg 97309829_238694690688592_7631570390027862016_n.jpg 97997933_250025092913665_3976780261693063168_n.jpg 98001721_166912804743761_9124231890876760064_n.jpg 98004555_2950937675003386_6196914509865549824_n.jpg

A few questions for you John

Do you know what a Die Clash is?
Can you tell the difference between errors and damage?
How long have you been searching and learning about Mint Errors?

I suggest you don't purchase anything without first having a better understanding of Mint Errors vs Damage. You also need to understand that certain minor errors really don't have a premium.

    Just my opinion.

and i would say, maybe 2 months have i been collecting errors...back 40 years ago when i sold coins full time, nobody cared for errors unless a 55 dd, or 3 legged buffalo, die cracks back then were not even looked at or detracted from value...just showing off my finds, and at the price i paid, well worth it just for the bu coins anyways..the 57d had me guessing though, sorry//

John, this is now the 2nd thread with non-errors. I highly recommend that you take a time-out from buying and spend it reading and learning. It will save you $$ in the long run.

Around 50 or so years ago, another man tried his hand at errors. His intentions were good but he failed miserably. He published several editions of a variety/error paperback that listed many minor anomalies and much of the information was incorrect. He died broke and his daughter was saddled with hundreds of copies of his book to get rid of. His name was Frank Spadone. I personally recommend that you visit John Wexler's site www.doubleddie.com and spend some serious time reading a whole lot of info for free that he has generously provided all of us so that we do not make the same mistakes as Mr. Spadone did. It will be a good learning experience and likely save you a lot of money in the future. I do understand you did not buy these for errors but you should also be buying quality, not just because they are B.U. Happy collecting to you. Tom

how are die=breaks not errors?? there are books about silver dollar varieties, how are these not the same??they may not be $1000.00 error coins, but they are errors, albeit ones that may not add value..sorry if i offended anybody..was just showing off some of my newest purchases, the 57-d was a question, because i am not well versed in die clashes, and sometimes they are very small and hard to see...smh

I'm sorry but based on your pictures, I'm not seeing any die breaks. I see some damage on the 57d but that's it.
Collect what you like and what makes you happy. Who cares what other people think. If you're happy, that's what matters.

John it is hard to see in your photos but the mark on the bottom of the neck looks like a bag mark. Looks like a reed mark where a reeded edge coin has banged into it.Sometimes a die crack hurts the value of a coin more than it helps. A major die crack would help a coins value in some cases. Good luck in finding some good coins

no, definitely a jagged line, not a straight reeding mark, i know what those look like, it is a hairline crack, and have seen it on a few washington's, someone else told me here that they were common

Base of the neck is a scratch. Probably a contact mark from another coin. Just damage. I can't tell on the eagle's head. Possibly a small part of a clash? I can't tell based on the picture provided.

That is no better, IMO. It is a very small picture that can't be zoomed in at all without becoming blurry.

Again, I see nothing at the base of the neck on ole' George. I see something possibly coming from the right of the eagle. But again, the pictures are small and I can't really zoom in. Just my 2 cents and I will leave it at that.

I'm glad you like your new coins :)

Nobody was offended. We are just trying to help you from making major mistakes. You don't know enough yet to assume that what you think are errors are real.

    Good luck.

I have to agree--When I first joined I had alot of damaged coin that I thought were errors.Sometimes I felt they were being harsh but they were really educating me and they made me more realistic. They took their time to refer me to books and articles that me better.
