Wow!...With friends like that..... The 1st camera I owned was a IIIf w/ a collapsible Elmar f3.5. I paid 139.50 for it in 1963. Damn, that was an incredibly sharp lens. The dealer who sold me that camera told me when I was able to step up to a new model he would give me my original 139.50 in trade. in 1965 I took him up on his offer and got the 'full monty'. A brand new-in-box M-3 w/ a dual- range Summicron & leather case. That camera was my only shooter, not only throughout Central America but Europe in 1972, as well. (I really miss film) Had Russell Lee as my photography teacher at U.T. & ended up teaching photography at the Houston Museum of Art, Glasell school. Great memories, J.T.
That email is not from ebay, and I'm 99.99% certain it is not from Paypal either (Paypay would not be using an .edu email address). If you want to be sure the open a new browser window and go to the Paypal website and login. If the email has links for you to use the log in DO NOT USE THEM!! Paypal will not do that.
That guy was a spoiled Jerk! And I fell for it. You've had some interesting cameras. I hope you kept that M3. Russell Lee did some really interesting work, including printing. You're very fortunate to have him as a teacher. You've had had an amazing career. Congratulations! During the seventies, I took some photography classes from Eric Kroll. Years later I learned he has some unique photography interests: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Kroll I never got turned on by digital. In the early days no tones in blacks, including shadows. There's a depth in analog film has that digital doesn't have,IMO. I'm sure (hope) digital is better now.
Since I was working w/ eBay I didn't think much about it. I logged in using my eBay PASSWORD then was taken to form, started entering my information then stopped realizing it was probably a scam. Logged into my genuine eBay acct changed my password CC information. @swtjc.edu = southwest texas junior college
I emailed eBay requesting they I respond w/ an emAIL address. I want to send them the scam email. Haven't heard back.
It won't do anything. There's a million different versions of it. Just delete it, run your virus scan and move on
This is absolutely essential to me when I am buying to resell. I have an app that costs about 4¢ per snipe. I just activate it and let it bid for me. That way I don’t have to constantly keep track of when auctions are ending, don’t get tempted to passionately bid and win, and know for certain that my bid will be dependably carried out. This is especially useful when I have 100+ auctions I have active bids on at any given time. I paid $20 for 500 snipes, and I made many, many times that with the coins I win. Also if I don’t win, I don’t get charged. I only get charged if I win
I had no idea bidding on ebay was so complicated. Been doing it for years with a max bid at the last second, watching items, buy it now, and make an offer. All seemed pretty easy.
It is easy to do, you've just been doing what the snipe program does, but YOU have to be there to do it. The rest of the "complicated stuff" is just the theory behind why doing it that way is better. If you want to ignore all the theory it all just boils down to "Best strategy is to max bid at the last moment, either in person or with a program." If I remember correctly (it's been a long time) it was just spoof@ebay.com and Paypal was spoof@paypal.com Forward the email don't copy and paste it because they want all the headers that the email programs no longer show you unless you specifically ask to see them. I think they can see them on a forwarded email.
Where canI report Internet Scams? eBay replied "delete the email" PayPal sent me an automated reply. The scam PayPal was sent from an email address from the SWTexas Junior College. Could not contact the college. Left a voice mail message w/ the Texas Board of Education. I don't want to let this go. Any suggestions how I report this?
It’s a noble cause but I think you are wasting your time. Add the email to your blocked or spam list. And always be super cautious.
I forwarded the bogus email to spoof@paypal.com It appears the scam email was sent from a junior college in texas.
This morning I stayed up and won a camera auction at 3:46am then lost a couple around 8:30am. Earlier in the week I won a couple and lost a couple by placing a high bid w/ overage within a few seconds of the auction close. I gotta use a "snipe" program. Still checking them out. Some don't get great reviews. https://www.thebalancesmb.com/what-buyers-should-know-about-ebay-sniping-services-1140550 Thanks for all the tips.
