I got a $1 today with the numbers 1-8 in it with no numbers twice. How common is that?

Are they in sequence going up or down? Or just mixed up?

If it looks like "12345678" then that is called an up ladder serial and if goes the other way it is a down ladder serial. Otherwise I think it is called a broken ladder -- I have found 3 of these in circulation in the last couple of months. Haven't gotten to a solid up or down ladder yet.....

No they aren't in order. I hadn't noticed one before that's why I wasn't sure if they were common or not. Sounds like the one that I found is. Thanks!

Not that common, but not very rare either.
No premium on them unless they're a ladder :)

    KD.....

In most cases when you see a SN# that has 1-8 in numerical order (12345678) it will be a "Specimen Note" and will likewise have "Specimen" in Red on the note as well.
I can't say with any certainty how often I have seen a note with those numbers.....chances are that it may or may not be of any significance...why don't you post an image of the note so that we can take a closer look at it.

Sounds like more math to me....

There are 40,320 different serial numbers containing the digits 12345678 in some order. So you'll find roughly one in every 2480 bills--that makes them about four times as common as radars, for example.

If you don't care *which* eight digits the serial uses, then there are 1,814,400 different serials that have no repeated digits. That's close to 2% of all bills, about 1 out of every 55.

Still somewhat rare, but spend it if it's in poor condition. Once you find a ladder...Now we're talkin!
