Howdy fellow coin peeps, Please take a peek at this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1858-U-S-A-Ca...goryZ523QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What you are looking at is a cheap brass "replica" that this seller has been told about repeatedly by Mike Locke, of CalGoldCoin.com and what the seller is doing now, is misspelling California so Mike doesn't find it any longer with his searches and he's also using the Private Auction format to keep peeps from notifying the buyers they've been duped/had/swindled/taken to the cleaners/etc.... I can no longer do anything about this seller and Mike has given up on Ebay giving a hoot about fraud, but one of our fellow collectors has been bamboozled with the idea of owning a authentic CGF and I'm not happy about it and I'm hoping you won't be either. Please report it to Ebay and if you feel "froggie" or "toadie" message the seller and politely let him know what you think of someone like him! It also wouldn't hurt to let him know he's been reported as being a charlatan. Thanks for tolerating my rant. :thumb: Ribbit Ps: Here's the link to report it: ebay.com/ccw Copy and Paste that into your browser, since it won't work directly from CT and here's the Item Number for reporting it: 220298474491 And here's what you can put in the complaint section: Item is not gold and is listed as such. Furthermore, it isn't authentic, it's a cheap brass replica from the 1970's and was made in Japan. Ribbit-Ribbit-Ribbit
A letter reporting this individual to the Secret Service will go a long way to putting this counterfeiter to bed. Even possible in a cell with a new loving companion. Inform this seller with an email and a forward sent to the Secret Service so to not cause any surprises and the statement, "I didn't know this was a replica"
Here ya go: http://www.calgoldcoin.com/bear1.htm First, read the write-up in the beginning then scroll down to the 9th token and compare the two. :kewl: I guess I should have included this with the OP but Mike and I have been discussing this seller for so long and I know it's fake and he knows it's fake but most peeps here don't. California Gold Fractionals... one of the riskiest areas of the US series. Tons of phonies, hard to find info. Worse - since the real ones have such a myriad of designs and poor workmanship, it's easy to craft a bogus piece for sale. It's so sad, because many of the phonies were not made to fool anybody. My understanding is some of them were souvenirs many years ago, and the contemporary buyers knew what they were getting, and paid appropriately. In addition, I'm sure there are many that were made for nefarious purpose.
