I'm putting photos of a coin I got from change from a store yesterday. This shows that a few errors may still be out there. It has two clips and a tiny nick that almost makes it three clips. The brown spots on it is not corrosion , It is trying to start turning brown in these areas.
Are you referring to the area above the word TRUST? That would be the Blakesley Effect from the first clip across from it.
The Blakesley Effect is a term used to describe inefficient metal flow, opposite a clip on a coin, when the rim is formed and the subsequent imperfect or incomplete rim formed at that position after striking.
I think it shows that someone is spending coins that have been in storage for a long time. Your coin still has some edge fin on the obverse left.
I am sure that @paddyman98 in post #5 meant to say "during striking" and not "after striking" in his last sentence. http://www.error-ref.com/blanking-and-cutting-errors/
I'm sure you are right here. Sometimes coin collectors die off and the heirs get's rid of the collection , then other times family members or other folks will cash them in. I know this has happened to me before.
That's a nice find, especially receiving in change. Either someone broke into dads collection or they needed the money for something awfully bad.
