I'd be afraid to buy something like that unless I know the seller well. ;) It's in such awesome shape, I'd be concerned it's not authentic so I'd have to have one of our experts scope it first, before I'd consider buying it but I know they are right behind me, so I await their knowledgeable words.

    Nice! :thumb:

Oftenwrong, do you have the link as to where you bought it?

It looks fine, but the flan seems to be oversized.

$50 is the high end of what they are worth, but it is a nice pickup.

Its genuine. A very nice portrait, but the letters ran a bit on the obverse. The reverse die was worn, as they often are. Probably an EF coin, if I had to say. As far as the oversized flan goes, that's usually a plus on ancient coins.

I wouldn't have bought it for $50, but that's only because I'm not too keen on Gordian III. You could definitely do worse! Good buy!

yeah, looks genuine to me...shows how prices are sky high though, this coin should easily be 20 bucks less, especially at that grade...not to say that you got taken as I believe prices just arent what they used to be.

Yeah, I think the oversized flan is nice. Also, it's got nice silvering.

actually, this one is fully silver. They didn't start the silvered ones until later, after the death of Gordian III.

Stainless, thanks for the correction. I know virtually nothing about the mid-late empire coinage. Always good to learn something new!
