Hi everyone. I was roll searching an found an incredibly shiny presidential John Adams coin that looks like it was struck with a proof die or something. And today I discovered the US Mint lost my order Good thing I insured it. Why has the quality control at the mint this year been so bad?!! And all of a sudden a lot of fugio cents have popped up on ebay for really cheap.
I wouldn't call them cheap! Those little booghers always set me back for a nice sum! :goofer: If they are truly cheap, I'd suspect they are not authentic or in really bad shape. The one I just got cost me over 200 bucks and it was corroded but still in nice shape, but a "real" collector of Fugios would not want it. I'm believe a coin deserves a home, no matter what shape it's in but that doesn't mean I can give all of them a home, I just do what I can on my limited budget. I guess that makes me a liberal? Nat all of those were cheap but there were some that started at 99 cents. I am pretty sure those would be fake.
Yes, the US Mint has been unceremoniously cut from my list of where to buy really nice coins. The two clad proof sets I ordered were so bad that I could not have combined them and have one good set. The two replacements had fewer gouges, chips, scratches, and spots so I reluctantly decided to keep them. The silver proof set I ordered was totally a mess. I returned it with a note about how bad it was and that I wanted a perfect set for replacement. It didn't take them long to refund my money and postage, so I figure there isn't much chance of getting a really nice set. That was the straw that broke this collector's back. No more US Mint products for me. jeankay
I returned a proof set, a silver proof set, Silver eagle commemorative dollar, and an eagle clad half dollar!!! And they lost my package when I sent it back!!! I shipped it Priority insured. :rolling: The US Mint was a mess this year, I am probably not even going to buy this years legacy set or next years St. Gaudens now.
