new 1943 copper cent on ebay real or counterfeit?

very true,but considering that all previous listings were private, it could well be fake feedback, built up by minor items of nominal value. Also I would say that maybe you left out the negative sign in your estimate of the chance of this being real, I would say this has about a -1% chance of being real just look at the 3 in the date. I feel sorry for the winner of this ultra expensive fake.

I was going to put .1% chance of being real , all we can hope is she honors her buyback and doesn't split with the money , she told me she was a long time collector and had this coin for a long time saving it for a rainy day , well she must of needed money really bad to rip someone off , also why didn't she get it authenticated by ANACs ?

I saw another auction like this with a 1804 DBC that someone sent in to a TPG (top one - PCGS I think) and it was also body-bagged. They too used the submitting form to convince peeps it was authentic but it wasn't. We discussed it extensively on CFE and members there said the first thing they do is determine if it's gradable and if it isn't, it's body-bagged and no further service is provided. So there's no note on the submitter's form that the submitter got something wrong. I think the TPG's should go that next step and determine if it's what the submitter submitted and make the appropriate notes when it isn't, that way the submission form cannot be used as it was in that auction and this auction. The TPG's are providing peeps with formidable evidence that it is what they say it is, even though the knowledgeable peeps know it isn't formidable. But we all know that there are a lot of peeps that buy the coin, not the book. :whistle:

ALL of the Gobrecht dollars were struck as proofs. Even the ones put into circulation were proof strikes. No business strike finish cons were made.

 

Also if the people selling were made by ebay to give clear pics of diognostics that would proove if the coin was legit , in this case if the VDB was razor sharp due to the extreme pressure needed to strike steel cents , also if it had prooflike squared rims due to the added pressure , of course on this coin the rims were to worn to be telltale , of course this all relys on ebays willingness to prevent fraud . Also asking sellers whose coin has been pulled previously to submit their coin to ANACs for authentication would be a step in the right direction .

Fraud makes Ebay more money than they'll ever admit to and they know it! :whistle: I'm about to have it out with them and PayPal and if I don't get resolution soon, I'm getting an attorney and going after them.

The FBI lists fraud on ebay at 1% that's extremely high , imagine if out of every 100 things you buy , 1 thing was fake , you'd sue the store and own it or at least put them out of business .

I bought a California Frac. Gold pc. when I got it it was a fake . took it to ebay , they later told me I didn't have to pay for it . Duh , it was already paid for , still waiting to here from paypal .

Just one question I hope somebody can answer , when I win an item on ebay I usually pay for it with paypal the day I won it . How do you go about getting a refund ?

When you bid on an auction that gets pulled, they send you an email telling you what to do. With PayPal, I believe all you have to do is file for the refund (return the coin, if you get it).
