I know Ancient coin collectors are against doing this (and I myself am up to an extent), but what about your better ones? The really expensive ones that you probably wouldn't dare to hold in your hand anyways. Would you slab any ancient coin? The reason why I am asking is because I have been thinking about slabing my Gorgon using ICG...just for extra protection. It is my best coin and I have no intent of selling for a long while. IDK what it would do to it's value if I did decide to sell it.. Thoughts? stainless
I thought about doing that to my tet. but I know i would regret it. I'd suggest finding an airtight with the foam ring and put in one of those.
I cant find it now, but amazon.com had an ancoent coin set for sale (probably way over priced) all the coins were in the airtights and placed in a wooden display case with I thinka glass top. I was going to post teh pic but its gone.
yeah, thats what I use for the couple of 1/20 oz gold i have ( and they fit in the 1 oz gold ealge tube ) I found the coin set
I picked up the air tights at amazon for pretty cheap , but idk where to get a case like that but Im sure someone here does
No, slabbing is not for me. I derive great enjoyment from holding my coins as I reflect on their historical associations. I will only attribute "coins in hand" so that I can observe all of the fabrication and inscriptional nuances. Besides, I just personally think there is something aesthetically wrong about consigning ancient coins to plastic coffins. I don't think handling them damages the surface patination in any way. Of course, these are just my personal (and biased) feelings on the matter, completely unsupported by any scientific evidence. James
ICG will not slab this. They currently only slab Roman coins minted in silver from 69 AD to 307 AD. ANACS has started slabbing some ancients, but I believe only Roman right now.
Totaly agree NEVER NEVER NEVER LOL and yep Ruben is right it is a nice box, I am sure that I have seen some similar to that on ebay :thumb:
I'm not really in favor of slabbing ancients either. I will warn you though... I tried to get some Airtites for a few of my denarii back a while ago. They wouldn't fit. The coins were too thick. So, by a small number of them to try first before you spend much money.
