seem to recall the mint did that back in 2015 with the monster boxes too.

They’ve done it several years, that was just the first time they did and had the lowest run by far so those get most of the hype and cost the most

It's been true for years and years with various offerings. People don't have to like them, but the market decides.

Labels certainly aren't a sound investment, but then again is our field as a whole a sound investment?

I'll stick to labeling people instead.

Rick Tomaska is selling 1964 BU Kennedys for $459.00 in a NGC 1st day issue holder. The coin is worth about $6.00 and the label is worth $453.00.

Are these the type of coins where a collector needs to have everything, every type and from Mars. Just so stupid to make these coins a factor. God. The world is full of nuts

Monster box...slang for the green plastic box silver eagles come in...it has a sealed band around it which has the I d mark of the mint it came from...s, p, or w. Send the unopened 500 coin monster box to a grader for authentication and you get back the phantom mint marks on the slab. Some collectors get off on that!

In the 2011 example I had plenty of each and could see that the fields of the two were different enough to actually identify them.

If I hadn't watched The Coin Vault last night, I would not have a clue what you are talking about. They took over a half an hour to tell you why those coins were special. Then he showed a picture of one of the slabbed coins at MS69. Then, the magic number. You could get a coin labelled from the Philadelphia Mint because West Point could not make enough. The price.... $79.95 plus shipping and handling. Never bought from them... Never will!!!

To me it really does not matter, and is really not that unusual of a situation. It is merely a fact which someone hocking these will try to sell them as some sort of novelty. The article tried to make it sound like some sort of unique situation. I am guessing someone will try to get a TPG to note the fact on the label and then try to use it as a "rare" coin selling point. I do not collect ASE, but enjoy watching the hype with all the different "proof" and "reverse proof" issues.
