Should I buy these from my drawer?

Are any of these buyers? They are in my drawer at work. I know "buy what I like" but just curious if they would bring a premium of any sort.

$20's are tough unless they are uncirculated - If they were $1's then I would say yes to the second and third note. The binary note may get a couple dollars over face if you could find the right buyer. Even know the second one is interesting, I doubt anyone would give more than $20 for it.

Thanks Darryl...I didn't really think so but I would have hated to have handed them out to a customer and then find out differently. Just wanted to make sure. So if they were 1's you would say yes? That's what I need to know so I know what to look for. Thanks again!

In that condition the 3rd is the only possibility. 1's and maybe 5's would be a little different. You may want to PM "Jim from DC" and ask him if anyone he knows might be interested. He is a great guy and has many contacts that are looking for specific numbers. You find numbers like that on 1's and forget anything I told you about Jim and just PM me ;)...

    Nah, I wouldn't save them.
Neat finds though, especially the 77 - you don't see those around too often :)

Yeah, I'd definitely let those go. When I was working at a bank, I was very careful about keeping any bills that large...it was just too expensive. I did keep a couple, but I would have let those go I think.

I personally kept 4 $20 bills in the time I worked at the bank. Two of them were just because they are old...one was a 1950 and the other a 1950B. Later, I found a series 2004 Chicago star note. That in itself isn't very exciting, but I really wanted a colorized $20 bill in my collection and I loved the serial number on it so I kept it. It is serial EG00007863*. When my career in banking was drawing to a close (after one year) I looked at my collection and saw that I had a couple small face $20s and a colorized note...the only thing I was missing was the older non-colorized large head note...so I kept a nicer star example of a series 1996 that came a long. But, all of them are circulated.

Thanks Richie....I'm still new to this so am always afraid I'm missing something. I'm sure that I am alot. LOL I would think that working at a bank that I would find intersting notes and coins alot more often than I do but I don't. I guess if it were that easy then it wouldn't be fun would it?

I found interesting notes are pretty common, its the coins that are hard to come by. But, always keep an eye out. I got into the habit of buying every $1 star note I came across...but that could be $1 a day, sometimes even more. Plus, there were a number of larger bills I kept because they were old or were low print runs. It can get expensive.

I'd highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Guid...=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225073007&sr=1-4

As with any book of this type, I wouldn't hold a ton of faith in the values because it is printed once a year and the prices always change...but it has a lot of very useful information. Namely, print runs for notes. It was the book I used while at the bank to see if the note I had was from a low run and worth hanging on to.

I just get the feeling currency collection is like collecting lottery tickets.

Well, at least currency isn't worthless, and has some asethetic value!

Well except for the fact that unlike lottery tickets, the losing tickets are not worthless lol...

Since it's all legal tender currency, the worst you can come out buying these for face value is to break even. You can always spend them for exactly what you paid for them later if it turns out not to be worth keeping. You have absolutely nothing at risk because you're guaranteed to at least get your initial investment back.

You need to visit some of RickieB's threads, at the end of the day - collect what you like and be happy everyone doesn't collect the same thing!

I agree with this recommendation - I have this book myself and not only are the prices but there is some useful information provided that will help you.

Like everyone else has said, collect what you like. Don't force yourself to try to collect something that you really don't like......heck I have one collection going that a lot of folks would call very off the wall. If you are happy at the end of the day with what you have -- then that is the best way to do it.

Buy them all...no brainer. I love the 20 and would put those in my collection in a heart beat.
