I think Cointalk should have a separate category for Counterfeits and Altered Coins

So where is the best place to post them currently for all to see? Some are US coins, some world, some fake errors and what about just Coin Chat? At least with its own category posts should be grouped together in one place.

And there is no reason folks couldn't post their questionable ones there as well so we know to look.

    Just my "2 sense"...

In that case, neither are "counterfeits"! ~ Chris

It is a situation plaguing the hobby of coin collecting, so I strongly disagree.

They go in the forum that is already there for each of those. That's where the most people will see and learn from them.

There are rules here about that and for good reason. New folks would post the same thread on every forum. Some already do that and the mods have to clean it up.

Horsehockey! Just because counterfeits are detrimental to the hobby is no reason to suggest that it makes them coins. PVC "green slime" is detrimental to the hobby. Does that mean that we should have a forum for flips? ~ Chris

A suggestion ( as I doubt such a forum will be approved)

By your own initiative have all interested in presenting such an item, start their title with some wording most approve of and put into Coin Chat. Then the Search for that specific beginning of a title would be listed with any others as long as it is unique, such as

COUNTERFEITS add rest of descriptive title here

You then use the search function to look for COUNTERFEITS . It might pick up some random use of the word and the reader may decide to read those also or not. Searching for Title only does increase validity of hits. An idea you can test, if a couple of you have something new in that area to show. I haven't had time with reports to do such myself. Jim

It would be like a level 10 thread. I'm about a 2 level. But i do find that i will mostly spend most of my daily reading on counterfeit etc.. If its out there. I think learning the finer points of coin collecting has to be a part of our forum. Trying to find out if its counterfeit makes you truely inspect the coin as a whole @JCro57. And that @Jack D. Young guy doing us a great service. Much love for @paddyman98. Too

There is a forum here on CoinTalk called Coin Roll Hunting. It is also a form of finding coins. Metal detecting is usually for hunting and finding coins. So I see it as the same thing hence Coin-Talk. ;)

Have you ever seen any of my dozens of Metal Detecting threads?
Here are my finds.. Each hunt is coins galore!

Well, unless you dug up rolls underground, not sure how it is coin "roll" hunting. ;)

Toss a coin on the ground. What does it usually do before it comes to a stop?

When I find a great coin I usually "roll" around on the ground with excitment! And then I can't wait to share it with my CoinTalk peeps!

I even had one of my Metal Detecting threads featured once ;)

No, they would go to the one new forum for discussing counterfeits and suspect examples, taking the strain off of the mods and the other established forums:happy:...

It's important that the counterfeit problem be in front of the most amount of members to see and learn from. Creating a new forum for the topic will not do that. It will limit it and fewer will even see it.
The US Coin Forum will give the topic the most exposure. As Jim said above, the search function here works really well. You can search title only for the word or any use of the word in any thread across all the forums that we have.
