No, your not alone. I have friend that his dad left him quite the raw collection. One of the raw coins his dad purchased, from Littleton, was a 3-legged Buffalo nickel. I couldn't find the date he bought the nickel. I do know he paid $90 for the missing leg nickel. I told him it needs to be graded to get the big money out of the coin. His response? "How do I know I will get the same coin back?" Once he said that I gave it no chance to ever get graded. He won't even let me see all the gold coins his dad left him.

I have never sent a coin off for grading, the costs are quite high for many of the coins that I have. I have purchased graded mint state coins for my 1938 through 1941 uncirculated coin sets.

There are time my safe will go weeks without be opened. Yes I do have angst when I send a coin in to be slabbed. These days I just tell myself it is in the safe and I am too preoccupied to get into the safe....... No, it doesn’t work for me either....

I think PCGS is the only company that does grading at U.S. shows. You have to become a member of PCGS to be able to submit coins, even at the shows. Show grading is expensive. Economy grading is $65 per coin with a 5 coin minimum.

Here is a link to PCGS show schedule. There is also a link at that page of the submission form with pricing.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Depends on the show. NGC, ICG, and ANACS all do onsite grading.

Yes, if you have something unusual they have specialists in the series. I'm sure not all of them go to all of the shows. They'll always have US specialists, since that's far more commonly the material they get submitted at a show.
