Real talk though, any COVID-19 commemorative is just straight up cringe, regardless of who is putting it out or what the design is.

Truly on par with a Cholera Cot Commemorative, but a step above a Baseball or Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative.

 

The baseball one was honestly one of the best ones they have done in a long long time. The Basketball one the design they picked just wasn't good other than the ball side.

As far as any Covid commemorative I wouldn't get one, but if they're done in an uplifting way I can see how they would appeal to people. I don't really see a difference between them and the breast cancer commem or the March Of Dimes one which the design was extra creepy to me and so on.

I hope we don't go further down the disease rabbit role with official commemoratives as that will be a never ending list of depressing coins on the way but wouldn't be the least bit shocked if there was a covid one when this was over

 

How would a coin commemorating a disease appeal to people? Even if it's presented in an "uplifting" way? It appears to me that many people want to close this chapter of history as soon as possible, and avoid remembering this situation in future years.
Plus, the Breast Cancer Commemoratives and March of Dimes coinage were intended to raise money for that specific cause. This, however, is just another attempt at marketing complete junk to gullible individuals.

 

Since we are not getting a commemorative coin honoring the centennial of the start of (alcohol) Prohibition I guess we are not getting one to honor the influenza epidemic of the same time period.

 

You could be a survivor as someone that has serious symptoms (the majority probably wouldn't care) or know someone that was, something you lived through. The same way a cancer coin would appeal or any other disease coin would which do happen.

The one in question is donating at least some of the proceeds to hospitals, no different than the other ones.

 

I'm assuming the folks behind it see it as commemorating their, erm, "our" heroic response to the disease and victory over it.

I didn't react as badly to this one as I did to the burst of "third-party" 9/11 commemoratives that rapidly followed the event itself.

I still generally prefer commemorating things that are, you know, in the past.

 

Interestingly, the station I was listening to on my drive into work this very morning (KCBS 740 AM) ran a story/report about that supposed coin and company.

So before you get yourself all wound up over this, the store in question has absolutely nothing to do with the actual White House. Well, that's what was said in the story they ran on the radio this morning.

 

I'd buy one, would go nice with all the other Trump coins I have in my collection next to the hats
