I bought the Unc. dollar , my 1st mint purchase in a long while because of its great design , I didn't reaize the 1/2 dollars reverse was so beautiful .

Nice site Ruben...nice coins...love your $5 Indian Head golds. I don't know if I would go as far and say that the American Eagle coins are the greatest work that the mint has ever done, but it is one of my favorites too.

I got the Commemorative Half Bald Eagle a few months back by way of trade. I consider it one of the most beautiful coins in my collection. Its also my first and only commemorative US coin. Absolutely loved the design. Its a clad UNC.

 

I think the detail of the engraving of this coin separates it from anything else the Mint has done. It was extremely ambitious, and successfully pulled off. They should ditch the Kennedy half and use this instead.

The one coin I wish I really had, maybe two actually, is the reverse ASE. I don't know how I missed that. I'd also love to have a FH FSHIELF 1917 Quarter.

aren't we all sick of dead presidents and portraits on the coins. It stifles the creativity of the design.

Instead of having a minimum number of years that a coin has to be in production..... we need to have a maximum number of years the coin can be in production. Start to force change in our coinage... No pun intended!

Reuben, that is one heck of a site you have. Along with enjoying your collection, I loved meeting your family. You are truly blessed.

 

I'm starting to like the look of MS silver (over proof) more and more. Clad just doesn't come close IMO. I wish they had used the obverse of the half as the reverse of the dollar. BTW I just got this Saturday.

 

Thanks Denis, but for the debate, you really have to thank Doug. He was the genius who challenged me to look at it more closely and to dig hard at photographing the reeds of those Mercs. Doug is the most knowledge person I've ever met on Coins and folks should be grateful for his time and efforts here on coin talk, because he enriches everyone's experience.

Wonderful wonderful coin and I agree that the MS's have another kind of charm and look. I'm thinking that they should stop calling these Uncircs MS, MS because ... their really not MS coins. They seem almost like a different kind of proof.

BTW - aren't ALL the Eagles now MS 70?

I thought that was in the law, or at least after 35 years the Mint could change the design without congressional approval.

I am definitely sick of the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington, Kennedy coinage. I doubt Kennedy even deserves to be on a coin.

And I don't want designs picked by Congress. I wish the Mint would create their own concepts and have them approved or disapproved by Congress and the President.

That is what I am saying... we should mandate changes to our coinage after the time period is reached.
