For instance, Today I found out that some memorial cents were apparently made with zinc coated with brass instead of with copper. According to the mint, some zinc blanks going through the coating process inadvertently got left in the plating bath, slowly dissolved and subsequently mixed with the copper to form brass which was then applied to subsequent coin blanks.

That's a favorite of Ken Potter's. :D He likes'em but I'd rather have a corroded large cent. ;) Besides, the new "cent" isn't copper now and I'm into copper :thumb: not copper plated pot metal.

Well, they are minor varieties, but not listed in any references that I've read so I don't know if they're collectable or not, but for the prices he's charging for them, it seems like he wants you to think they're valuable.

Also, the zinc cents (w/ plating) were only started in 1982, not the whole series.

I think the best way to describe Ken is he was a kid who grew up sorting through bank bags for anything he could find and one thing he looked for was errors. So when he ran across a penny that didn't look right, his imagination took off and now he has his brass pennies. I don't think much of the pennies but Ken is another thing. He loves our sport avidly, so much, he looks for the needles in the hay stacks and sometimes he finds one. ;) Even if it doesn't look like a needle.

We all have our little quirks so his quirks don't bother me anymore, now that I've gotten to know him. :thumb:

Brass is Zinc and Copper? I though it was Iron and Copper.
