These two were on my desk this morning and were pulled from circulation. They have been around the block a few times but for face value - I'll gladly add them to the collection... :D

I had the option of purchasing over $900 worth of Series 1950B tens the other day, I passed. With the economy going south, there is a lot of this stuff coming out of the woodwork. I got a Series 1934A $20 though, actually a nice VF District 7 note.

I wish I knew some tellers at larger banks as I am sure some old notes are out there floating around with our economy in shambles! Neither of these are in great shape but why not save them as they didn't cost anything extra. $900 would have been a little too much to put away but it would have been interesting to go through the group anyways looking for stars and interesting serial numbers/districts.

    Nice finds!

I actually got a chance a fee months ago to look through several $1000 straps of 1950s $10s. I took what was good, and some of the better condition notes, and made a little profit. In my experience, you can actually get better hauls as smaller banks, as it doesn't take long to get to know the tellers, and they will save almost everything for you.

I posted earlier in the year when I bought a banded pack of $50s from 1934-1969 Series, the best was the Series 1950D Star note from Minneapolis. Unfortunately I sold it, my last sale on fleaBay and for no where near what it cats in Friedberg. I kept the rest of the notes, emergency money that can always be spent in a pinch.

Nice finds Darryl, congrats on them! :thumb: It's neat finding older notes in circulation, I actually prefer the older styles compared to the new. Nice notes! :thumb:

I figure that's why sightings of such notes in circulation are on the rise... people have some of these saved away, and when money gets tight, they say "heck with it" and just spend them, not realizing or not caring what they'd be worth to a collector (or assuming they're not worth anything over face, due to condition).

Sometimes they're right of course, and they're not worth a whole lot over face... but there's still collectors who would love to save them if they can afford to.

I recently rescued a slightly stained, but not too bad, 1988 $5 bill that would surely end up in the Fed's shredder if I didn't rescue it! In its condition it's probably not worth a penny over $5 but for $5 it's worth it to me to save it, especially how rare it's getting to see old style $5's in circulation.

If it's worth it to save a 20 year old bill, it has to be even more so to save bills this old lol... so far oldest piece of paper money I ever found in circulation was this:

Which is still a highlight of my collection! And only cost me face value!

I just "released" like $200 in 1995 $5 bills into circulation recently (Thank You WAMU you lying sacks of....).

On another note, yes, I've been seeing alot of the older style notes, but many from the 1970's and 1980's. The last time I saw 1950's notes was like early this year, and 1960's about 3 months ago.

Also, it is just me, or have there been alot of Barr notes being circulated around? I encountered like 15 examples 3 months ago within a 2 week spread, and at least 50 since feburary when I kinda began to keep track mentally what notes pass by me. .
