Tacitus was about 75 years old when he was selected emperor in AD 25-Sept-275 - ruled for about a year and a half and died in Cappadocia in the Spring of 276: Tacitus, 275-276 AD, Antoninianus, Lugdunum mint, struck November-December 275 AD Obv: IMP C CL TACITVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right Rev: PAX PVBLICA, Pax standing left, holding branch in right hand, transverse scepter in left Ref: RIC V 45 Although it looks like there is no A - with a careful look - it seems the A might have been clogged, but present. My most photogenic Tacitus: Tacitus, AD 275-276. Roman billon antoninianus, 3.57 gm, 21.1 mm. Ticinum, AD 276. Obv: IMP C M CL TACITVS AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust, right. Well, as strictly a First Century guy I can only offer these two Flavian brothers. This is my first denarius featuring them. Vespasian AR Denarius, 3.04g Rome Mint, January - June 70 AD Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Head of Vespasian, laureate, r. Rev: CAESAR AVG F COS CAESAR AVG F PR; Bare heads of Titus on l. and Domitian on r., facing one another RIC 16 (R). BMC 2. RSC 5. BNC 1. Acquired from Ephesus Numismatics, November 2005.
Interesting - prompted me to pull up this paper (Esty, Equall, Smith) confirming higher silver content ~10% v ~5% for an XXI. Anything known about why? did others mint double strength coins?
Question on my first post of Florian above it says RIC 111, I looked in wildwinds and it might be RIC 110V I am just not sure if the mint mark on mine is KHA or KHΔ. What RIC should it be ?
For a second opinion, I would have called it KAΔ and looking at the obverse legend on (110 111) I think you have it right in the OP: The legend from Windwinds (110V) : IMP C M ANN FLORIANVS P AVG FYI - a reverse die match to your coin here (RIC temp #4490)
