I'd say it was worth it. 2008 has been a good year for my collection.

    1803 Half Guinea. :D

The last in a three year run for this type, it replaced the spade reverse in 1801. This one has a nice orange gold tone, with beautiful luster. The image was difficult through the ICG slab - caused some shadow problems. I had to rotate the light quite a bit to get a shot I was most happy with. I was tempted to crack the plastic just to get a better image.

So end my 2008 Numismatic year...

...Yeah, right, I didn't even type that with a straight face. ;)

    African Coin

I like world coins, but can't invest too much money in them, so I concentrate on great artwork on the cheaper metals.
I got one the other day I'm really proud of, and if it were in pure gold, what a magnificent piece it would be. I have a pic somewhere in my computer, but can'f find it right now. This coin is nickle and features a king with crown on the Obverse, and a magnificent male african lion with tail raised, crossing the velt, with mount Kilamanjaro in the background!
Every white hunter story we read as a child and movie of such we saw, are all rolled up right there in that one scene! The coin is from East Africa.
Wish I could find that pic.

and there are a lot of those, I do the same. I can sometimes buy an expensive coin but if I spend a lot it needs to be real nice and strike me deep down. But there are just so many real interesting if not just downright stunning coins in copper, nickel, and even aluminium.

What a nice original coin with color! We should be happy that the previous owner did not try to dip this off. Congratulations on the acquisition!

And not it won't be your last coin of the year!
