Proof dies of that era were used for around 25,000 pieces which is why I used that for my lower number estimate. I would assume SMS dies were used longer than proof dies.

No reason to sent them to Philadelphia, Philadelphia didn't strike any dimes in 1966. But San Francisco DID strike 74 million buisiness strike dimes that year. Remember no mintmarks that year so the dies could be used at any mint.

Most collectors tend to think about dies and coins and don't consider what can hppen in the earlier stages. So when the saw "lint on the die" they thought between the die and the planchet, not between the die and the hub.

I remember that's one of the things my uncle taught me way back - it kind of confused me then, but made sense later.

I thought I had found a doubled die, but he told me that I didn't have anything important because that was doubling from a master die. It was on every single coin of that year.

He then explained the process and used mirrors as an example. Take a mirror, and that's your negative. Your right hand looks like a left hand. Now put a mirror behind you. Think +/-/+/-/+ and that way you can trace it back. Kind of like shooting pool.

That was my general impression as well - just wondering how long they would use the dies and if they would cross them over to business.

Basically, found another "5", but it was on a coin that looks to be a business strike... I'll DM you photos if you'd be interested in taking a look.

Apparently photos are looked down upon here. Trolling appears to be a pastime on here; I wasn't going to join, but hey.... when in Rome.

@CoinCorgi - In response to your post, I wasn't going to respond because it appears conversations with you and your friends add almost absolutely nothing to discussing coins. I've seen you and your bf on here many times trying to bully others.

It's bf right, not bff or bfs? I'm confused because he said "the others" and I really hope I didn't just become a homewrecker. I really hope that maybe all y'all cool kids can teach me all these cool words and phrases because I sure haven't learned anything from y'all in terms of coins.

As for your request, and apparently you want one, I can shorten it to one sentence and a question. As for photos, unfortunately I only have one and you and your bf may squabble over it.

I came on here because people like you and the cool kids appear to take great joy in trolling others with trite remarks and parroted advice without contributing anything new or of much use in terms of numismatic knowledge.

When your bf came crying to you when he ran out of insults and someone actually stood up to him, did you advise him to edit his post so you could put in an overused Vonnegut reference for the 100th time?

As for the photo, the problem is that he may get jealous that you AND I occasionally both suffer from pareidolia. LOVE that word... LOVE it. Can one of y'all say it again because it's so relevant to this discussion. Except this time, y'know, maybe you can use it in a sentence properly?

See, you're seeing a 5 instead of something that looks like a "5" and I think I saw a post from your friend that sounded like a temper tantrum... but it's not there anymore. Odd.

And when he asks if I expected him to take it in stride, you can tell him, y'know... I kinda did. And he did bow out. o_O Was that what he meant when he edited his post to *? BOHICA? He wanted more? Again y'all cool kids and your slang.

But we both know that you don't need to because everyone can see with his liking comments on this thread that he's lurking. Just eat crow, bruh, or go to the other thread and try to sound important again. Oh right, he's already trolling there too.

Be careful what you post because the internet is forever.

BTW because it's important to capitalize something when you want people to know that you want to state something important!!!! I have a confession to make, I posted more than one sentence and a question.

See, I figured all y'all wouldn't be able to count past that. I apologize to everyone for putting out false info.

But Corgi, seriously, the more important question is, if you guys don't have any interest in this variety, why are you on this thread? And if gaining knowledge is truly difficult for you, and you really don't seem to contribute anything original, why are YOU on this forum? Some good *? Is that the answer?

Anyway, how about getting back to seriously talking about coins rather than trolling. I'd actually like to learn things from real experts.

Sorry everyone for these diversions. There is real knowledge to be gained here, unless knowledge be the pareidolia.

Is this a thread about coins or pointing out what we believe to be the faults of other people?
