I was scrolling through reddit and came across this post where someone used a program called Artbreeder to "colorize" a marble bust of Carcalla. I thought it turned out pretty cool. He looks even more like a "Bro" in color And to keep it coin related, here is the closest bust match Caracalla coin in my and FFIVN's collection. To be fair, we only have 2 and the other is of a much younger, possibly less fratricidal, Caracalla. Caracalla Denarius 206 AD Obverse: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right Reverse: PONTIF TRP VIIII COS II, Mars in military dress standing left leaning on shield holding reversed spear Does anyone have a coin with a bust that is a closer match?
Because the bust is full-face and his coins are all in profile so far as I know, it's very difficult to match the look. This is the closest I have; it gets the scowl at least: Caracalla AR Denarius 210 AD, Rome Mint. Obv. Laureate head of Caracalla right, ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT/ Rev. Virtus, helmeted, draped, standing right, left foot on helmet, holding spear in right hand and parazonium in left hand, PONTIF TR P XIII COS III. (Thirteenth anniversary as ordained heir.) RIC IV-1 117B, RSC III 478. 19 mm., 3.01 g.
Hi All, I'm sure this topic has come up before. Here's an interesting video on what ancient statues really looked like. The white lie we've been told about Roman statues - Broucheion
Because he was dead for 1,754 years by that point...Though Zombie Bro Caracalla would be even more terrifying!
I remember that back in the 80's/90's there was a homeowner, I believe in the LA area, that painted all of his Ancient Statues in their original colors. From the article I read (cannot find it now), that everyone around the area were very upset, thought it was pornographic, or that they were grossly incorrect. I remember thinking, "no, paint had faded or flaked off over the thousands of years. This guy was correct." It was very funny for me seeing everyone upset over this.
Ok, EVERYONE. Coronavirus PROJECT> Everyone must sit down, get your paints out, and PAINT ALL YOUR ANCIENT COINS!!! NOPE, no excuse. They are ALL wrong, cuz they are all too old. You need to PAINT THEM ALL to make them politically correct. (ahem... not me...) I came up with the idea, so I am exempt. You WILL respect my AUTHORITAY
Some countries have issued coins that are in color, at least partially. They all look "wrong" to me. Like play money.

I have a few "colorized" Canadian coins just found through roll searching. They are "eh". My friend did get me this one on her trip to Canada last year though, and I think it's pretty cool. 2017 Canada $2 Northern Lights
