Very good point!!! I'm very concerned now about all the numismatic and other mags/matierials that come to my apartment complex. I have never thought of this before this Heritage issue but my entire apartment complex, the FedEx drivers, the USPS, and probably most of my entire neighborhood are aware that I have high-ticket deliveries on a routine basis. The several mags/catalogs and other coin related items that are sent to me are not helping me as a collector. Is there any way stop junk from being delivered? If not perhaps i should get a po box. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can keep a lower profile?

Also take a look at the return addresses on your numismatic shipments. Heritage is good in that their says "Ivy Press", ala Steve Ivy and his publishing venture apparently. Stacks says just "SRC" with the New Hampshire address. But then there is Goldbergs, with "Goldbergs Rare Coins" - great, thanks for just advertising to the nosey parkers in the PO what is in that heavy little envelope. I am expecting a heavy little envelope with some Danish gold from them anytime now, and cringe at the thought of picking that up at the PO.

Update - My coins arrived and all were in the package so they did get my other auction win included with my earlier one. :thumb:

Now to take pics and post them. :D

Richard, I'm in Canada but I'm sure the postal systems are not much different...

Because of some trouble I've had with Canada Post leaving registered packages in my mailbox, I just get everything shipped to my work address these days.

Registered mail requires a signature, but the mailman left it in the box. I complained and while the next package ended up at the postal outlet like it should if no one is home, a third package ended up in the mailbox again. I REALLY complained this time, and the mailman either got reassigned or fired because there's a new person on my route.

I'm not sure how they came up with it. The invoice says "This is our standard charge for domestic shipping and handling." I've never questioned the insurance issue before even though I'll sometimes get packages left in my PO Box without my signature.

At the same time I won a bunch of stuff from Ponterio and they shipped a large box (about 3 times the size of the large flat rate boxes) for $30.55.

Well, like I said the Greg Rohan promised to send a check. After about a week, I still had not received it. I then had to make four phone calls before finally getting to the accounting dept. They promised a check as well. Turns out I did actually get a check for the entire amout back on Monday. I deposited it and my bank put a 10 day hold on it. I do consider the issue resolved but will feel just a little better when I know the funds go though(a week from tomorrow.) I know it's Heritage but considering the amout of money, the fight I had to go though with them and FedEx, I really will sleep better at night when I know the check is cleared. I have since ordered from them and have not had any issues. After I win a lot now, I call customer service and request that I want my coins sent registered mail. Thanks to all of you that were of help in this situation.

    Troll,
Welcome back. Have not seen you in a while.

The question was does Heritage include insurance on their shipments or does the buyer have to pay extra for it.

Heritage insures all outbound packages through private third party insurance. There was never a chance this wouldn't be resolved in his favor. This is exactly the reason Heritage has insurance. Too bad no one emailed Zane or I to ask, it would have saved a lot of angst.

I am absolutely stunned that you told all those people that you collect/receive rare valuable at your place of residence!! While it is possible your USPS delivery person would connect Numismatic mags with collecting the rest of your neighbors and your FedEx guy can only know if you've told them, I just don't get why you would do that?? :/

I recommend getting a PO Box and then moving everything valuable out of your apartment and into safety deposit boxes, then you should be very careful to avoid bringing valuables to your house. With so many people aware that you have things worth stealing in your house I would be extremely careful until you move next. The best news is that in an apt. complex you will have much faster turnover of your neighbors that you would in a traditional house.

Hey Cave Troll, sorry I didn't contact you when this whole ordeal started. I thought about trying to reach you or Zane, but I figured you guys would see this thread sooner. I guess you guys are just busier than I expected.
Anyway, I'm glad everything worked out. And, now that you mention it, I am just a little curious about why Richard's neighbors all know he collects..

It's not that I have told anyone!!! It's just for the last two years I have FedEx, UPS, And the postal service are sending many signature required packages(including registered mail.) Most of the people in my apartment complex have routinely seen me sign for packages. Also, I get so much Numismatic Junk(teletrade, bowers and merena collectors universe etc that when my mail box is full the postman leaves these mags at my front door. While most of this stuff is not valuable, it does not take long before people get to know your business in an apartment complex. I just recently had the post office hold all registered packages so I can just pick them up rather than draw attention to myself by signing for them at my front door. I'm also getting a PO box. Finally, I do have a safe deposit box but there are always going to be times when I have valuable coins in my apartment.

Let them steal your decoy safe

Buy a cheap safe that is light enough that it can just barely be carried away by any visiting criminals. You don't need to know the combination. Leave the safe in plain sight and hide your coins someplace else that is safe & dry.

    Very best regards,
