So I had this dream last night that my friend (who works at a credit union) had a wad of cash, and I asked to look through it. Anyway, then she showed me examples of a brand new 100$ bill that just came out (in dream-world apparently, and oddly I didnt know about it, lol) So these new 100's used that changing-color ink (when you rotate it it changes) and they used a lot of it. So much, that there was a scene on the reverse, and when you rotated it slightly, the scene changed to nighttime. The numbers also changed to varios colors as you rotated it (instead of just 2 colors, there were about 5) I think that would be really cool if they actually did that. Just wanted to share. I think that'll be the future of money. :thumb:

Speaking of dreams..... Last night I bought a strap of $1 notes from my bank and they were all star notes. Too bad it was a dream! :rolling:

The $100 bill is supposed to get a design change next year. Nothing specific about the design has been released, but it should be getting some colorization like the $5, $10, $20, and $50 already have (presumably Franklin will get a frameless portrait too). Who knows what will be done specifically but am looking forward to finding out! I hope they do a better portrait of Franklin too, the one they've be using since 1996 makes look bug-eyed and hungover lol... While they're at it, how about new designs for the $1 and $2? They haven't been changed in a very long time (the $1 hasn't had any major changes since 1963, the $2 since 1976). Low priority I'm sure but they have to change them some time, don't they?
Do they? I heard some of the possibilities on the new 100 could be polymer, or have a polymer window like some other world notes. I havenet heard anything in quite a while, so not sure of the direction the new 100 has taken...
I figure that the reason they haven't is likely either to satisfy those who want to keep a "classic" appearance, or that the cost of adding new features isn't really justified (on the $1 because it's low value anyway, on the $2 because it's so little used.) Maybe a combination of that and other factors. Well in the absense of hard facts there are tons of rumors lol... some have to end up being true just by law of averages I guess. I guess we'll find out for sure some time next year.
This is what i have read anytime the BEP asnwers questions as to why they are not redesigning the lower denoms. They redo the higher denoms to stay ahead of the counterfeiters... and i havenet heard of alot of fake 1's lol IMHo i would like to see them redone .. like the US coinage .. i think the desings are very stale. I do like the changes they have done with the higher denoms, but would love to see the $1 and $2 redone - COMPLETELY. that means removing George and Thomas. If they wont take them off the coins... i doubt they will on the notes!
They've announced that one new feature of the Kodachrome $100 will be an embedded thread with a holographic image on it that appears to *move* when the note is tilted. Everything else is still up in the air, at least as far as the public knows.... Maybe they'll surprise us all and put somebody besides Ben Franklin on it? Last we heard, though, the new $100 was supposed to hit circulation next spring, so we ought to be hearing more about them soon. Unless the release date slips, they ought to be going into production within the next month or two, which means that the designs might be unveiled in that same timeframe. But the exact release date has typically been announced only about three months in advance....
Is it likely to be Series 2009 then? If so, can expect signatures of a new treasurer and secretary... (whoever McCain or Obama appoints). Though the new $5 was Series 2006 despite not being released til 2008, so it depends on the authorization date I suppose. If the series is something between 2006 and 2008 would still be Cabral/Paulson.
If the schedule hasn't slipped, then production of Kodachrome $100's should begin long before Bush leaves office, so they'd have the Cabral-Paulson signatures. Most likely they'd be called Series 2006, though I guess there's an outside chance of Series 2008 if the BEP's in a funny mood that day. A side effect of the timing is that, unlike the 1996 redesign, we won't get a chance to see crazy-high block letters on the $100's this time around. Over the next few years, the BEP will pretty much replace all $100's currently in circulation with the Kodachrome version, but that $100 production will be split between at least two series due to the change of signatures with the new administration. So, no repeat of the AB..Y serial block that we saw on the 1996 $100. Also, note that the BEP and Fed *have* said they plan to replace the old $100's with the new version. This was done for all five denominations of the 1996 redesign, but has *not* been done for the first four Kodachrome denominations. Apparently the improvement in security features between the 1996 generation and the 2004 generation was slight enough that the Fed and BEP decided to allow the existing 1996-generation notes to continue to circulate until wearing out naturally, rather than shredding all old-design notes regardless of condition as they do for pre-1996 notes. But the Kodachrome $100 is getting a much greater security enhancement than the lower denominations did, what with the hologram and all. (Which is why I think there's an outside chance of it getting its own series date.)
