It has some big years!!! No 1909 unfortunately. My question to you is how do I take care of it. It was in a cardboard holder for years and it shows. I will try to get some pics up shortly. Thank you for any advise.
Since Key dates are the only coins of real value, juss enjoy 'em as a momentum of Pops. Look at 'em, touch 'em, enjoy 'em and plan on passing 'em along to your kids. :kewl:
Buy yourself an album. Just about any would do. Dansco, Whitman, etc. Just don't go overboard with cost if at all possible. Put ALL the coins in the album and enjoy being able to see them all. Pending your age they will still look basically the same in about 50 years. I have well over 100 Whitman Albums and all in zip lock plastic bags. I've been collecting for well over 60 years and all my coins still look like they did when I put them in the albums.
You're gonna have a difficult time adding old coins to an old collection without actually buying them. So mount 'em like you plan on keeping 'em and enjoying them. Make pops proud!
I totally agree with all of the above but wear cotton gloves when handling them just for protecting them and for me(peace of mind). God bless DAD and lucky you. zg
Definetely NOT TRUE... Key dates are not the only ones that have value. There are some downright tough coins in high grades as well as overmint marks, doubled dies and various mint errors.
Actually I always refer to doubled dies and overmints etc. as keys vs. regular runs. :kewl: But I definately would suggest the gloves. they're not gonna get any newer
I think that's pictures will really help...or a list of what better dates you have. That way we can give you a better idea of the value. For all we know, they could all be high grade uncirculated and if thats the case then you want to minimize touching them...but if they are circulated, a little handling won't hurt. As far as albums, I think Dansco's are an excellent choice. They are high quality and they look nice. Some people don't like them for copper coins because the pages are a tan color...but I think they are nice. They are a little spendy but not too bad (mid $20s typically). Whitman also makes nice folders that they have blue pages. Here are what I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dansco-7100-Coi...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 or http://cgi.ebay.com/Whitman-Classic...=39:1|66:2|65:3|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
. I couldnt disagree more. I think your best bet would be to post pictures, or at least give a list of the Lincolns. better yet, sounds like it would take less time to write down the ones that aren't there. and we can help you with some prices. Congrats on your newly acquired collection! and If you plan on making a show peice of them I would suggest a nice Binder. something like this. and put all the cents in 2x2 flips. IMO much better looking than a regular dansco album, and much more protective. and still respectfully low priced. you could get the binder, coin pages, and flips for under 40 dollars, which IMO is a very attractive way to present your collection. Binder Flips pages
Listen to SNAZ, he/she knows. Sounds really nice, A-ONE. I guess I'm backwards because I invert my flips and my coins are tightly enclosed by the MYLAR. They can not slide at all. Mylar doesn't react with metal, does it? Common sense. I also use scotch tape too. I'm afraid of using staples. Am I OCD? zg
thats fine ZG but I have a feeling they wouldn t be AS airtight as if you were to do it the regular way. BTW: Im a guy
Okay, I was just playing it safe. he, he The way iIU tape them they seem tight. Let you know in 5 years. Glad to meet yoyu. zg
I don't know if I agree with that. You'd be surprised what 30 years can mean to the value of collectibles, especially coins. I'd move them all out of the card board and put them in some decent plastic. Ruben
This is good advice. In addition to just writing down the ones that aren't there, it wouldn't help us if you could get us some pictures of those, too... :rolling: Seriously...your branch mints in the 10s, 20s, and 30s, some of those are keys and semi-keys, and we can help you on grades and value, there, if we can see those. Very good start on a collection, BTW. :thumb:
Coins from Uncle Joe A few years back I was given some pennys from a collection from an uncle who passed away. All of the really good coins were picked through by another uncle who was big on investment coins. I think he let this slip by and I ended up with it. Don't know what happened to the 1942D but I already ordered an uncirculated replacement. The 1955/55 sadly is not really a 1955/55. Perhaps that was one the other uncle took?
Wow, to me that is super and really nice to look at. Great pictures. That's what I'm trying to get my set/s to look like. Really Nice. zg
Thanks for all the great advise. Im planning on working on them this weekend. Ill probably plastic them and look for some type of display for them.
