Does anyone know what variety this is?

I thought it was D/S but NGC did not assign it to the coin when I sent it in for grading.

I don't have pics of the rest of the coin.

    Thanks in advance!

If nobody else chimes in, I'll have to look in my book once I get home from work.

I assume that you specified "D over S" on the submission form. Did you also pay an additional fee for the attribution? (I don't know if you would have to.) ~ Chris

Also, is it possible that NGC simply does not recognize the variety because it is barely visible? ~ Chris

The D/S was free. The specific variety would have been the extra $15.

I thought it was pretty noticeable

looks like a good D/S to me. Have you tried calling NGC and asking them if they can review the coin's images and perhaps the coin itself?

I don't know if it's just a D/S. After looking in my book and back at the image provided here, I'm leaning more towards D/D/S. You don't have any other pictures available?

They miss attributions sometimes. Recently happened to me as well on a flying eagle cent. I didn't bother sending it back in and someone bought it anyway when I put it on EBay.

It would also help to have images of some of the actual 38 D varieties, there are several different RPM and OMM for this issue. It may match one of the others.

Varietyvista.com there's great shots of all OMM and RPM for the 38 D.
