Here is a Proof 1858 dime. The Red Book says the mintage was 300+. This is tough type coin to get in Proof because most of them were only minted for two years. In 1860 the mint changed the type by moving "Untied States of America" to the obverse. This was the first year that the mint made a strong effort to sell Proof coins to collectors. I'd love to have the rest of set from which this coin came. In the those days, the mint sold Proof coins in three groups: all of the non-silver coins, the silver coins and the gold coins.
Man that is a great coin!!! That is what I'm saving for now a nice proof buffalo. A graded nickel or a raw 37 proof set.
