Ok, so i found this neat little coin and I was wondering if any of you could maybe put a value on it or the gold content. Any ideas?

I found this website: http://www.calgoldcoin.com/bears.htm but I got a bit confused at all the different types and judging by his main site http://www.calgoldcoin.com quite a bit about the page might be out of date.

Below are the obverse and reverse of this little gem.. you'll notice a burn tarnish on the reverse which looks like it could be removed/cleaned. The coloring isn't accurate.. apparently I need a new scanner.

    interesting, ex-jewelry piece.
    Possibly a copy.

As for 'copy' make that a post period similie.

    okay, post period:
after the 'real ones' were made, that actually circulated, a lot were made by jewelers, etc, for sale to collectors and as souvenirs.

Then many copies of these later pieces were made, making them, well, just curiosities.

    I hope that this helps.

    Frank,

I feel that you are correct in your previous posting! It was definitely a Jewelry piece as evidenced by the four (4) Gold welds on the Reverse. Also, due to the crudely done Stars on the Obverse, it definitely appears to be a Copy. Also note how the Stars are crudely oriented to the rim! If I am not mistaken, the genuine pieces have one point of each and every Star oriented directly towards and perpendicular with the rim when considering it's (the Star's) orientation on the Obverse.

There are no genuine pieces with bears on them. They are all fakes. Any value they have is solely based on bullion content. And given their size that is minimal.

Wow, thanks everyone. I would have never noticed all that. Thanks for the advice and info. I asked the guy who runs calgoldcoin.com and he said that it's a jewler's piece as well. He did say that this one is solid gold instead of a gold plated copper piece. Worth maybe about $10 bucks, but he said it's hard to find buyers for them since they're not actual currency.
