Hello, I just wanted to share 2 recent Metal Detecting hunts I did. I just had to get out and get some fresh air! First trip was to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn NYC where Coney Island is located - Second trip was yesterday at a local park in Manhattan. It was fun to get out and relax a bit instead of being cooped up all day. I know it's important to do so but knowing that there are still goodies to be found at beaches and parks keeps me entertained!
What do you do with the modern US stuff? My neighbor, and early MD in the 70's, used to take any face value coins, put them in a old butter churn with water and soap, slosh them around some to clean them up, and spend them. He made a good return in 1979 dumping all of his junk silver. I always remember one coin that made you want to cry. I was with him when he found it. Muddy Lincoln cent, rubbed the date 1909 S, turned it over, and a VDB was clearly seen. Coin was a nice XF/AU, continue cleaning it off...…..attempted hole on the top of it. Someone tried to make a pendant and stopped half way through.
I found both these coins at Brighton beach. The Indian Head in the sand and the Silver Half in the water!
If you're staying at home you can still earn money with your metal detector. Some very nice finds Paddy.
Just make sure you are allowed to be there. I've seen lots of news stories about people getting arrested for being out during shelter in place. I don't think you'd find enough to cover the fine
That's so kool-- made me remember when I was younger(long time ago)I went underneath the boardwalk and found a good pendant and thought about all the things that can fall out your pocket and then you got zero chance to find it in the sand--Enjoy
NYPD and The NY Parks Department both said hello to me and asked me if I found anything good. They were really pleasant.
Your lucky to be able to get out there. If we go to the beach right now it’s a $1000 fine, and they are writing tickets for it.
With this quarantine in place, I think you are going to run out of treasure to find. I hope not, but what do you think?
