Test Your Skills: Is This Cent a Damaged/Details Coin or a Gradable Mint Error?

I KNOW!!!! It is gradable. That's because you can clearly see 'CENT' on the back. That means it had to be struck like that. If something dinged it, then the raised elements would be dinged as well.

 

That is a very interesting coin. I would like to see an edge view. As may others. Maybe one from the 7:00 position if that is possible.

 

When it comes in I promise I will.

 

i would say NO for grading as it would come back as damaged. but a nice coin i would keep it!!

edit * reverse of the coin is odd but damage can be seen at 3 o'clock as it looks like the copper plating had been pushed. @The 6 o'clock it looks like the copper plating had been cut and peeled to up towards the 3 o'clock look @ the C the lower half looks scratched but stops to make the copper under it to look blended to the zink core

 

I suppose it depends on where they attribute the damage; mint vs circulation. Given the rest of the coin, it doesn't look circulated, so I'm going with mint error (damaged caused by equipment there).

 

The damage occurred first, and then it was Struck.

Notice on the reverse the word CENT was struck on the thin flap of copper that folded over.

Not a super expensive error, but a cool one for sure. You don't see these often on zimc cents.

This should be gradable for sure.

 

"Damage" that occurs at the Mint is considered an error, so this should be a gradeable coin.

 

All I was getting at is @JCro57 did not disclose yesterday if it was gradable as per the title of the thread

p.s what thin flap of copper that is Folded over i do not see it in pics shown

 

It looks like an MS coin that should be Gradable. But then I really don't and don't care to know about the TPG's policies for a coins eligibility to be graded.
I am truly more interested it how error coins are made.
