Well, I was going to post my 1938-D, but I can't find pics of it. I know I posted this 1943 before, but its been a while, probably over six months. So, here it is. It is a little whiter than the pictures show. My photography isn't that great since I only have access to a camera with macro when my brother visits with his expensive camera. ANYway, here it is. What grade would you give it?
Your there Toad! I think AU should just about do it. It could to down to XF-45 on a bad day. I say this because it shows wear on the skirt lines, and also on the left hand of Ms. Liberty. Nice coin though!
Strange. I've posted these same pics on cointalk, and had people grade this coin anywhere between AU-55 and MS-66.
I saw a tad bit of wear on the highest point of the skirt lines and a slight rub on the eagle's breast, so I figured AU-58. I really dew suck at grading silver but I usually get fairly close and I watch what others say and have gotten better over time. Ribbit :goofer:
Adam, I'm going to take a pass since as I mentioned in my thread, I no nothin' about Walkers! However, I do want to say I like your coin mucho.
Adam, I have experienced this same phenomenon. Whenever I ask a grading opinion now, I add a poll with several options. Hopefully, the members viewing the thread will submit their guess by viewing the photo only and not after viewing the other members responses. It seems to have worked quite well for me. Having said that, it appears there is a slight rub on the high points and I would also grade this coin AU58.
I'm going to say MS62-63. I'm not the best grader, and am usually off by a few points, but when taking my own MS63 '43 Walker and comparing it to your's I see few differences. I think it's a nice looking coin that probably looks a lot nicer in hand.
I think grading these is complicated by the fact that depending on the date of the Walker, there are two sets of standards. And I think people tend to be way, way too nice on later Walkers in the VG-XF range and then start getting really tuff when you hit AU and treat it like all the other series. You got a great, original coin with super features everywhere. Also no obvious problems.
AU-55. I see a little wear on the eagles feathers on the left leg. Also some slight wear on liberty's breast. Nice coin regardless.
I was thinking this was an MS coin, but those eagle feathers are the one thing that bother me. As for the center of the obverse, I hardly ever see Walkers with perfect detail there. I think it is the norm for the center of the design to not be sharp.
Adam - here is what my ANA grading guide says for AU-58: "Has some signs of abrasion: hair above Liberty's temple, right arm, left breast; high points of eagle's head, breast, legs and wings. Coins of this design frequently show weakly struck spots, and usually lack full head and hand details, but often lightly worn in obverse right field."
