It's a $3,500 coin -- at least. MS66+ even for a generic costs because MS67 -- 1/2 grade higher -- is a 5-figure coin.
66 because of 2 marks on breast, 2 marks on eagle & small amount of friction. They are hard on 24's because of population. Price just wet up Apr 1st to $2490 Looks nice...Good buy. Check for PVC haze by holding slab at angle. Looks like some "clouds" in the fields & stuff under "dollars". Is it a Euro coin w/ slab photo?
Before learning of the grade, I thought it was an MS-65, but would probably be in an MS-66 holder. I really doubt that this coin would be approved by CAC at that grade.
Alex's coin grades out at MS66+...which I think we all agree is overgraded (though he got a great price on it, more like it's priced as an MS66. Meanwhile, that HA 1924 MS67 looks overgraded by at least 1 and maybe 2 numbers. Whoever said common generics were graded harshly never saw those 2 coins !!
Yes, I dutifully acknowledge, inter alia, Liberty's right leg and yes, therein lies the grading rub. But, by any other measure - MS67. An absoutely stunning exemplar of the issue. I tip my hat to your eye for quality!
I mistyped above.....I said Alex' coin was OVERgraded as per the consensus here, but that isn't our consensus. That was the consensus on that 1924 MS67 for sale over at HA. What we had consensus on was he got a steal and that he got the coin at MS65 (even MS64 ?) pricing. But the coin is definitely solid for an MS66 or MS66+. And Alex, if the guy who sold you that coin has lots of others like it, he/she should post them here and he'll sell out VERY quickly if the price-for-grade is similar to yours !
Coincidentally, I just snagged a 24 off E-bay an hour ago. GTG w/o cheating & I'll tell you the price tomorrow. Click pic. to enlarge
Nice-looking coin.....biggest negative I see is the dings on the rims, esp. the reverse. I'm assuming the black I see on Liberty's legs are just the photo and not rub. MS66 is my guess.
As already said I am very happy with the coin. It's better than my NGC Ms65 $20 1922. Probably it got the + for the interesting luster. The surface is a mixture between radiant luster and a mirror surface. Unfortunately not. This was the only ,,big coin''. He had some Ms62 $5 Indian heads for about 499 dollar. The rarest date was 1909 P. I did not buy any of them because of I expect a rawr ms63 or at least a rare year for so much money. Very nice gold toning! I see very few scratches, but the legs and the breast look a little bit ''greasy'' on the pictures. This is the first sign of very superifical rub. My 1922 piece is similar. I think your coin will come out at Ms65+, because of shiny legs might be a need for Ms66.
I think I did pretty well at $2160 but not quite as good as Alexthegreat's rip. It looks like there might be some PVC under her branch arm and a little light friction in the left field (Lady Liberty's right) The edge does look better in the slab photo. This really is the best 65 I've seen in a long time. I might be selling the 66+ in my set and replacing it with this one if it looks good in hand.
