I hope I'm in the right area to ask this question what would my Frankenquarter be worth?anything?Would it be worth it to have it graded ? I didnt think it needed to be graded because the oddities found in it are easily seen on the Obverse (creatinulations from a coins reeded edge in a coin bag at the mint on their way to a coin roller, and the ring around the Obverse as well is a contact mark from the coin paper roller. Anyhow was just curious and again I hope I'm in the right area to ask this question. Regards- Sean Gonzales
Sorry I didnt word my question very well.... I k ow what happened to it..the process etc I was just curious as to if it was worth anything being an oddities lol. Thank you again for any light you can shed on the matter/subject is greatly appreciated. And thank you again for your knowledge and your time. Much appreciation Regards Sean Gonzales
No. It's DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged Since you are new you need to understand the following.. Any potential Mint Errors that you send you also have to get them Attributed which is another service besides grading. Costs a little bit of more money to do that.. So if you feel the need to have a true minor error that probably does not have a huge premium then it is not worth it.. Average $40.00 - $50.00 per coin for grade and attribution.
Very cool 2 questions if I may...(please and thank you) 1. Where should I send it ? (I think the coin is just plain cool looking ....ill never find a coin like that again...anyhow I'm going to just because of the really cool area/effect that the crenulations from another coins reeded edge caused ...that had marked the coin with what "appears to be stitches" Just the odds of that happening in a coin bag amd then to have the contact mark from the coin roller all in all just super cool to me atleast lol. Anyhow..my final question is what does "Attributed mean in the coin world and when this is being done can they grade the coin If I send money to do so or is that another place it would need to be sent to. Thanks again for your time and knowledge, Regards, Sean Gonzales
Send it to the bank. It is only worth face value. If you want to keep it because you like it, cool. Put it in a flip and call it good. No need to send it anywhere. You’d be wasting your money and all you would get back is your coin in a baggy that says it is damaged.
Do not waste your money sending it to be graded. Put it in a airtite plastic holder and look at it often. Worth only face value. Your coin is damaged.
Attribution means it is looked at by Error Specialists and they will determine if it is actually an error or not.
@Sean I Gonzales, welcome to CT! Actually, if you search long enough, you will find many like this one. If you are insistent on keeping it, just put it in a flip & use it to compare others for: - circulation damage - bag marks - coin roller damage. Or, as suggested, spend it - another will come around shortly. Continue learning, gathering coin knowledge, & having fun with this hobby, but beware of things which appear to be other than what they really are.
One semi-golden rule to remember about coins - Mint errors and post-mint damage are not the same. True mint errors could be valuable or just cool to keep and look at. Post-mint damage is not valuable but still cool to keep and look at. Don't waste your money to try to get it attributed. Won't happen and you'll be out some good money you could have spent to get a true mint error. Just saying.
First of all, let me say welcome to CT Sean. As everyone has said, it really isn't worth more than face value, but if you like it, put it in a 2x2 or airtight and simply enjoy it. If you did send it in, it would come back in a "body bag" as just a PMD coin. If you enjoy finding coins like yours, buy bags of the coins from the mint and search them. I'd bet you'd find more like yours. Good luck.
Sorry, but what they are saying is the truth. Take a nice new quarter and place the edge of another quarter near the mouth of Washington and tap it with a hammer.
No I totally get it I'm not offended... I was just wanting to know what attributed meant and now I know. As for sending it in to get attributed that was what was suggested to me in the first reply I believe. Other than that I understand that it's not considered a mint error due to it didnt happen during the Mint process it happened in the coin bag at the mint on it's way to the coin roller. I just thought I looked cool just due to where the reed Mark's hit the coins Obverse thus making the stitch like appearance on the mouth. Anyhow thanks all much appreciation
I have a nice collection of oddities including weak strikes and some obviously damaged ones. I like them. there was a tv show called ODDITIES and it was about people who collected the strangest things. REALLY STRANGE THINGS. But people liked them and collected them and paid BIG BUCKS for them too.
