Bet you were not expecting this! A raw VG10 Mercury. WOW! I would go at least $2 for this baby. Let me see some rainbow toned circulated coins. I know you guys have em, so lets see em.
Wow, I don't think I have ever seen a coin with that much circulation tone like that. I guess there is no reason why a circulated coin wouldn't tone...but I've never really seen one before. Very nice!
I'm not a toned coin fan so I'd probably try cleaning that toning off. Since it's not a valuable coin that is. Normally I never clean coins but I just am not toned coin person.
I like it Lehigh. I just bought a bunch of "junk" silver. Some decent mercs in there actually. Pulled this one out last night. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0005-10.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0006-10.jpg Betting it sat in album for along time. I still have more to go but was separating by decade and better condition. Common date yes, but nice detail and I like toning.
This was an abandoned project from long ago. My goal was to assemble a complete album of circulated rainbow toned Mercury Dimes (No 1916-D). My searches were frustrated by problem coin after problem coin, not to mention artificially toned POS. This following represents how far I got before I gave up. I was even willing to accept lightly cleaned examples that retoned, but my God, people just kill coins. This is something that I would love to pick up again. Anyone who has a nice circulated rainbow toned Merc, I will pay from 3-5X bid if I like the coin and it is not a duplicate. PM me if you are interested. Mercury Dimes are one of the few series that I enjoy in both uncirculated and circulated grades. Barber coinage has always been my favorite uncirculated coins.
I like toned coins and the toning on the fist coin looks realy rather nice , I also realy like the 36 with the purple/blue toning :thumb:
clembo: Nice piece. As for the low grade circs, they just don't do it for me. They just seem to reek of AT.
Not much toning on this 1919 merc (see avatar) I picked up in change about five months ago. In fact, there's not much silver left either... I'll have to check the thickness with a micrometer, but I'll bet it's at least .005 to .010 (or more) thinner than when minted. Anyway, I do like toned coins...
