unfortunately, my friend, they only guarantee the money to the party that submitted the coin, not the current holder. So, if you want the guarantee to stand, you have to return it to the party you purchased it from, who in turn has t return it to the party they purchased it from, and so on and so on (as if that's even possible) until the original party has it to surrender for the cash. So, it's not like the coin is as good as the grade, unless you are the one that submitted it for grading.

i dont know where you got that information i have known NGC to return money for coins that have been bought from the open market and PCGS will also refund you if they slab a counterfeit or if downgrades in a downgrade review

Sorry Mike, not the case. The guarantee applies to whoever owns the coin and submits it for guarantee revue.

my mistake, I guess. A misconception that I had over the years. I apologise.

I still prefer to grade them for myself. ;)

Ok guys lets not bash the resident thread killer!!! I agree with both sides on this. Some coins just do not need to be entombed. Some on the other hand definetely do. :D

That 1893 half $ is a beautiful coin unless it's been photoshopped from an XF coin; or artifically toned and photoshopped. If it is what it is, it's a killer coin.
