It is a 1982-D small date.
However it is damaged due to zinc rot. 1 cent.
Despite the ultra rare 1982-D copper small date, 2 known,
the better coins of this year are the 1982 Philly small date zinc and the 1982 Philly
small date copper in mint state condition. This endless parade of worthless, damaged, pocket change grows tiresome.

You are correct about it being ugly. Spend it before it dissolves before your eyes.

While I probably wouldn't have used that exact wording, there is a point to be made. If you are looking for a windfall, then you really have to know your basics (at a minimum): what dates/mm really matter; is it copper or is it clad; is the shiny penny really steel or silver, or has it been rubbed with Mercury. Maybe more importantly, there are probably no more than a small handful of 20th Century issues that have any real value in poor or AG condition, and you might not even get much for one of those in the condition your coin is in; and for a less than rare coin or variety, I doubt you'd get spit.

I still believe that the only stupid question is the one that is unasked, but there are such things as silly or boring questions primarily because they have either been asked and answered many, many times already or the answer is obvious without ever having to ask the question. Just a thought.

  11. I don't want to sell any coin. I just want to have my own collection like I said before.

It is beginning to look like some members on CT thinks it is their responsibility to reply to every post. I don't think that is a rule on here. I believe it is ok if someone don't like the coin or the op to just pass it up and keep on scrolling. We were all beginning collectors at one time and probably didn't know the difference between PMD and a real error. We need to give the new ones a chance IMO .

First my apologies to the OP. I had intended to add to, "If you are looking for a windfall," or even trying to learn something new. In addition, the "you" was said in the plural; not the singular. Nevertheless, this point is still valid . . . a badly damaged coin is just that, a badly damaged coin and needs to be recognized as such. Whatever merit (or information) these coins may have once had, they are certainly of no use now; no, not even as a learning tool and certainly NOT to put in a collection. We all want to give "beginning collectors" or even those who are just interested, a chance. At the same time, I think we also have an obligation to impart as much useful information to those asking as possible; if not, then what's the purpose of this forum. People post, we respond, or not as the case may be. Sometimes those responses are not all that pretty, but sometimes learning can only be done the hard way. These types of responses are not intended to demean or belittle (though admittedly I have seen some that might fall into that category), they are meant to inform to the extent that is possible.

I would close by saying that I believe most of us needed a little encouragement and a helping hand to learn how to walk. In the same vein, I also believe most of us learned to crawl on our own. Semper Fidelis

Because rolls or boxes of pennies don't cost as much, and many of these CRHer's are looking to hit the jackpot with as little cash outlay as possible.

I've never heard so much knee slapping coin humor. Actually I never knew it existed. This has opened up a whole new world for me. I mean coins don't have feelings, are not in a minority group and don't have any lobbyist. This is great

Like eBay. Sellers post items to sell. But no bids just set prices. We joke about Etsy many times because there are many obvious damaged coins that people try to sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars. It's very sad.

coin collecting takes time, research, and understanding what you are looking at, this is not an easy money hobby as many think, it takes hard work, lots of effort, knowing what one has as to what they don't have

now I've been collecting since 2003 and seen all sorts of coins most are junk coins worth face value, but sometimes you find a coin in the change or one you bought that just makes the thrill of looking through change, coin shops, or websites worth it

advice to new collectors: research and learning will get you far in this hobby
