Hi all, Any idea if this is worth anything? It is a silver one dollar coin from 1878.

Assuming it isn't counterfeit, and the condition it is in, I'd estimate it to be around a $55 coin.

Tough to tell condition from the pics., coins in similar condition are going for $25-50. Check Ebay sold listings in the advanced section and compare your coin to them. That may give you a better idea.

Does it matter if it has 7 wings?

7 tail feathers, your coin has the Second Reverse as far as I can see.

Google yourcoin. There's about 5 different reverse(tails) of your coin. One's worth 85000 bucks. Have fun

Yes. It actually does. Yours is a 2nd reverse, as there were different reverse varieties for that year, the 8 tail feathers being the rarest.

Its an extra fine coin at least. EF-40 or better. Only a guess

I think this one could get a possible AU, due to the detail. However, the toning on the back is rather unattractive, and that might bring the value down slightly.

I am no expert in this series. Something looks wrong when there is virtually no wear in the hair over the ear on the obverse or in the breast of the eagle. But then the arrow heads look really worn...

This appears to be a counterfeit. The reverse shows what appears to be a die crack all around the outside edges of the lettering. This is usually a indication of a cast coin. You should weigh it and check to see if it’s magnetic.
