Just wondered who collects Contemporary Counterfeit Bust Half Dollar by die variety? i have a 1833 9/I i believe this is the forth example !

I love contemporary counterfeits but never even thought of collecting by die variety

 

Couterfeits have 'die varieties'? You guys are too much.

Some are common, and many are scarce to very rare

While counterfeits never did it for me, there are a group of quite passionate people who collect these.

I have the first edition, never got around to getting the second.

 

Somewhat off topic, but is it not unlawful to possess counterfeit US coinage?

 

It is illegal to attempt to pass/sell as real, but as long as it was manufactured/imported prior to the passage of the Hobby Protection Act of 1973 simple possession is perfectly legal.

 

Thanks. For some reason I had thought that just being in possession of counterfeit US money was unlawful.
