Not sure what this is called. Is it a rim cud or a finned rim? 1982crp.jpg 1982fullobv.jpg 1982fullrev.jpg

VERY interesting!! May I use your photos for educational purposes??

I am thinking that this is a folded over rim fin, although it has some rim cud characteristics. I am guessing that it would be attributed as a Rim Cud at this site: http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cent-cuds-1982/

Reasons I lean towards a rim fin

    • the way the thick rim fin trails off at both ends
    • it occupies approximately 90of the circumference and I have never seen a die with that degree of circumference broken off
Here is a study I recently did of the question:

Misaligned Die Strike will cause a High pressure strike which will cause a Finned Rim.
Your Cent is Misaligned, So as Pete stated.. it is a folded over finned rim IMHO

Let's not forget that beautiful finger print on the reverse. Sends shivers down my spine whenever I see those.

This is definitely a rim cud, and an unusually long one.

Thank you Mike Diamond! This means I will need to change my research report and definitely add this as a rather rare example!

I've seen longer ones, some equal to or surpassing 180 arc degrees (my memory is too hazy to be more precise). All of them were on cents, for some reason.
