Hello, I am very new to collecting, I have purchased a few silver eagle Proof graded PF 70 ultra cameo. I have read in some of thes forums that the new NGC slabs are airtight. I am trying to collect the full range of these silver eagles in PF 70 ultra cameo, but some of the coins are in different (older) slabs, can I as an individual collector send these coins back to ngc to be placed in new slabs so that they are all the same and are better protected in the air tight versions? thanks
Yes, they can be reholdered. $5 / coin, 5 working days turnaround. http://www.ngccoin.com/services/services.asp No, the slabs are not airtight. They're pretty good I suppose. But then again, if something's not water tight, it does a bad job of keeping water out and a good job of keeping water in. :headbang: I had an ASE come back graded PR70 DCAM (in ANACS slab). After a while, it developed lilac / russet toning . That's when I knew they aren't airtight. It's also when I began storing everything low humidity + Intercept Shield boxes. Submission privileges to NGC are free (unlike PCGS). I joined ANA and I'm in. I'm told there are other ways.
Whatevrworks, welcome to Coin Talk. The battle against toning never ends, but keep in mind that in the long run, toning is likely to win.
That's not free. There is a cost to join the ANA. You can submit to NGC thru eBay for free. Go to the coin section and look for the NGC logo on their side panel.
