I thought some of the hammer prices were insane too. But I'm glad I walked away with the one I really wanted.

I have participated in several on line auctions the last few weeks and have found that the prices are going really high. I wonder if it is boredom?

Apart from the Stankomb section which I can't tell why it brought such high hammer prices, I found that the prices in the Greek section were pretty fair... There were some exceptions (Mauretania) but I could pretty much get many coins if I desired them a bit more. It was nothing like the recent Gorny auction.

Here's my catch of the day.

That is one El Lesbian masterpiece...on both sides! (although, that Herakles is very nice)

No.....I would say its demand vs supply. There are a finite small number of ancient coins in existance. Probably if you take rarity into account, these where bargain prices. US coins with same population numbers would go for 6 figures. Ancients where always undervalued, maybe the market trends are playing catchup. I noted many Russian/ Chinese/ German bidders on Roma site.
