It seems to me that the images posted made the coin look better than it is. I'm thinking that's about normal.

I did indeed. And that's because of what CAC says themselves -

" Now there's an easy way to identify select quality coins within any particular grade. Just look for the CAC verification sticker. "

900fine doggone it people like me

I thought CAC meant the coin is "high end for the grade", which is pickier than "I agree with the grade".

Some people think they can upgrade coins with CAC stickers and become fabulously wealthy overnight. Don't bet on it.

"Buy the coin, not the sticker !" ;)

Though I will say I have seen some nice coins with CAC stickers...

As I'm sure you will acknowledge there is a big difference between "select quality coins" and "high end for the grade" and "on a good day it would have gone -65".

Here's also what the CAC says about their grading (bold emhasis mine):

    WHAT THE CAC STICKER MEANS:

    • Verified. Your coin has been verified as meeting the standard for strict quality within its grade.

    • Guaranteed. CAC stands behind our verification by making markets in most actively traded coins.

Lastly, and perhaps most to the point, consider this:

    5. I noticed that CAC uses the term “premium quality” to describe coins that receive a CAC sticker. How does CAC define premium quality?
For many years, coin dealers and advanced collectors have used the letters A, B, and C among themselves to further describe coins. C indicates low-end for the grade, B indicates solid for the grade, and A indicates high-end. CAC will only award stickers to coins in the A or B category. C coins, although accurately graded, will be returned without a CAC sticker

Yup I do, but then there is also a difference between "select quality coins" and the complete phrase "select quality coins within any particular grade".

The more definitive statement Mike is your second quote about A, B & C coins. That one pretty much nails it down. I will refine my understanding as a result of that to say - mid range or high end for the grade. (thanks for that) And that's the green sticker.

Now, what is your understanding of the gold sticker Mike ?

oh i forogto to mention the gold sticker is a way of CAC saying the coin is undergraded a 65 coin in a 64 slab ;)

OK I've learned that the CAC stickermeans midgrade or highend for the grade , and the Gold sticker means it's an undergraded coin , that's why I love this site .
