i wish the u.s. mint will produce $2.00 and $5.00 coins for collectors. the mint can also issue them for general circulation. in this way, the collectors will have more to collect. other countries like europe and u.k. issued $5.00 coin. and the canadian got $2.00 coin and plan to have $5.00 coin in the future. what is your opinion?. size for $2.00. i think some what like the canadian toonie. while that of $5.00. smaller but contain more intrinsic value.
Lets think about this, we now have 20 states quarters each year (5 from each mint P & D, plus Proof & silver proofs). we have 16 Presidential dollars, P + D & Proofs. Plus the non-circulating Sacagaweas (#3, PD & S) Plus the non-circulating JFK's: #3 (PD & S) So right there we have #42 pieces per annum. Plus the Gold Spouses nad thier copper medals. Nah, That is more than I want already.
This will probably be a minority view, but once coins are produced "for collectors," they cease being worth collecting. An important part of the collectibility of coins is their use in commerce and trade as part of US history.
I hear ya... but that's just me personally. But I have no problem with the US Mint producing all the "collectors only" items for others. It spurs interest in the hobby. They seem fairly popular, and an inexpensive "entry point" for newcomers. There's a lot of that stuff at shows, so someone is interested. There's no need to produce $2 and $5 coins. They simply won't circulate. They just won't. $1 coins don't circulate, and $2 bills don't circulate.
I personally have never seen a $2 bill in circulation. The only time I see $1 coins is at the post office vending machines. I would think inflation would ultimately make $1 coins popular at soda / candy vending machines, but I don't use 'em so I don't know. I have never received $1 coins in change - they give me $1 bills 100% of the time.
elaine, I agree with you that they should make $2 and $5 coins, but then I think we need to get rid of the $1, $2, and $5 bills. I would much prefer to use coins for these denominations.
higher denomination for coins i liked bi-metallic coinage. i don't mind they keep the paper notes. just produce it for collectors. i also like to see $200.00, $500.00 paper notes.
Visit a strip club. The place I used to bounce at used $2 for change all the time to increase the amount the girls were getting tipped and thus, increasing teh amount the bar was taking as their cut. Then again, those are teh only routine places that I see that circulate $2 bills too :goofer:
everything go up everything go up. now it is time for the mint to make $2.00 and $5.00 coins. canada, u.k. , europe and other countries have more or less make $2.00 and $5.00 coins for circulation. and even replaced their paper currencies. what you think?.
Oh please no more crap from the mint. I swear I'm thinking about dumping all my proof and mint sets. Just because.
That's because the BEP continues making the $1 bills. Stop that, and the use of $1 coins and $2 bills would take off.
If this is a minority view, then I am part of the minority. I would add that I also appreciate the need for quality examples of commemorative & circulating coinage struck in proof and MS just for collectors. What you decide to purchase or collect from circulation is up to the individual. I'd like to see the $1, $2, & $5 coins in circulation. The only way the coins would widely circulate is if the paper money counterparts were removed from circulation. Very best regards, collect89
silver dollar why not put the american eagle silver dollar at $50.00 face value and let it circulate?. that will be cool. isn't it?.
