That's a good point. My wife gets her hair cut by a woman who owns her own small shop. She doesn't even own the building; she rents it. She is unmarried and has two small children. Her shop is closed and she now has no income. For how long? No idea. There are probably millions of people just like her. What is going to happen to all of them?
My heart goes out to Italy at the moment.. hit harder than China now.. what an awful situation. (New cases/New deaths = changes current day).
I heard that toilet paper is being hoarded by shoppers in order for families to make lots of toilet paper origami while confined to their homes....
Oak Park, IL is now under an Order for Shelter in Place. The order begins at 12:01 am this Friday, March 20 and will last 15 days until 11:59 pm on April 3. At a Thursday afternoon briefing, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced three more deaths in Illinois associated with COVID-19. This brings the state death toll from the new coronavirus to four. State officials also announced 134 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 422 in 22 counties. Stay home and safe
I am thinking quite the opposite, those guys took a massive hit as a result of Coronavirus apprehension.
Hello Richard You should also consider social distancing during the live auction. Participants should be kept well apart. Also, I would encourage participants who are 60 and over (the high risk group) to participate via the Internet. Thanks
Practicing social distancing when I do have to go out (grocery store, etc.) in the meantime I am working from home (which I usually do anyway).
Hi Richard I would like to amend my comment to include any individuals with preexisting medical conditions, including COPD, heart disease and diabetes should refrain from attending the live auction. Thanks again. BTW - you run a top notch firm.
I'm working from home for the foreseeable future. As the computer room is too cluttered with gadgets/junk, the kitchen table has become my office. I'll probably go into work next week to retrieve some stuff to complete the transformation. It's all a bit sudden - a week ago, I was skiing in Austria: Then, just as we were leaving, the season came to an abrupt end due to Covid-19 and I returned to social distancing, self isolation and the like. Oh well - I'm lucky to have a job and no fever or coughing yet at least ATB, Aidan.
The situation in North Alabama: People are not really freaking out. There was a run on the stores, but nothing crazy that I saw. The Walmarts were the hardest hit, with most foods, paper goods, sanitizers, and medicines wiped out. Lots of stores still have plenty of food for several people to stockpile a month or two of food. I got 4 months worth before people started freaking out. I’ve just been going back to pick up random things and casually assessing the damage. Restaurants are not closed, but the seating areas are. You have to order outside, and they will bring the food out to you. Schools are shut down. The apartment leasing offices are locked up. I have not gone exploring, so I don’t know what else is shut down. I think the bank lobbies might be (I am going to check tomorrow and see if I can pull some coins from my SBD). The military base I work at has told all non-essential personnel to work from home. Contractors (like me) are technically not allowed to work from home, so the command is diligently working to change the policy. As with all things government, it will take a while. We might have progress next week. But for now, I will enjoy the nonexistent traffic during my commutes.
Hello everyone! I'm still taking my break from coin collecting but I was kind of worried about everyone here so I thought I'd check in on you all. Glad to see everyone is hanging in there! I'm hunkerin' down here in Southern Illinois, working from home and teaching classes online as much as possible. I have a 2 week supply of toilet paper a 2 month supply of disinfectant and medicine . By "disinfectant and medicine", I mean booze. Come on Asklepios! You're looking like a chump! We need you to bring your A game here!
The Battle of Costco, 2020 CE ... The virus is in my community now, unsurprisingly. I'm exercising maximum precautions. Be safe, everyone! Protect your family, friends, and neighbors. Minimize excursions. Wash and sanitize often.
I have a hard time believing the numbers from China. It is very hard to believe that they have moved from a situation with 80 000 confirmed cases, to 34 new ones. How many cases have been not confirmed? They have done a magnificent job, though, I'll give them that. And the population of Wuhan have really taken their responsibility and followed the guidelines of the leadership to a far larger extent than we can expect any population in the western world to do.
For every country it is the same, all the numbers are only confirmed, tested cases. Now, especially with the massive outbreak in many countries, authorities do not test everyone anymore, only people in the risk group. The estimated numbers of infected people are up to 10 times higher than confirmed (depending on country).
I think that the healthy attitude is to take anything that totalitarian regimes like China (or Iran) say with many many grains of salt, especially regarding such important issues as pandemics and world public health.
